That's not quite true either. If someone is taking a photo of a mountain and you wander in to shot, just try telling them you have ownership of the picture...

Yes. The relevant law, RIPA, does not prohibit individuals from recording their own communications provided that the recording is for their own use. Recording or monitoring are only prohibited where some of the contents of the communication - which can be a phone conversation or an e-mail - are made available to a third party, ie someone who was neither the caller or sender nor the intended recipient of the original communication. For further information see the Home Office website where RIPA is posted.
Do I have to let people know that I intend to record their telephone conversations with me?
No, provided you are not intending to make the contents of the communication available to a third party. If you are you will need the consent of the person you are recording.
From http://www.retellrecorders.co.uk/legal/home.htm
You can record without permission, unless you want to divulge the recording to a third party. Only then do you need permission. It is not an issue of copyright - the law that applies here has nothing to do with copyright. It is the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000 ("RIPA").

Which is what I said earlier.....

Ah..the great british law... lol
I'm refering to copyright law and not telephoney law which are both different.
the good thing about british law is that it can be used to fit any purpouse as its very complex and outdated in many area's lol

I know you're referring to copyright law. But OFCOM says it is not copyright law that is relevant here, it's telecoms law. That's why Neil and I have been saying you're wrong - you're using the wrong law to arrive at your conclusions. However, if you can cite me the section of the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act that refers to recording of telephone conversations, I'll stand corrected.

You have changed your position. Originally you stated that "you need permission from the person to record thier voice" (Post 10). Now you say it's the act of publication that forces permission to be sought. You are right in that (although it is telecoms law, not copyright law, that governs this - and you still haven't quoted anything to show otherwise).

Very good, but seeing as you have changed your position and are now agreeing with Neil and I, there's no need to discuss it any further is there?

Just being in a situation where you may hear a conversation (over the phone without the person knowing)has its rules!

Re: Help been cut off
What about CCTV cameras? I expect that I get my picture taken 10s of times most days, probably more than that.
Do you mean to say that this is illegal without my permission?

Re: Help been cut off
OK, enough! We have explored the issue as far as necessary to help the OP decide whether he should record his calls to NTL.
Let's get back to the topic now please.

Re: Help been cut off
Was wondering if one of you kind NTL workers could help me out, as this its not getting fixed.
Just had a independant collections agency call after no payment, after a 5min discussion with them about the bill, i was politely told it will go on my credit report, as late payment, and around 70% are NTL fault, are down to there billing system being totally Fooked.
i called NTL too only hear some BS from a CS rep.
Anyone help...
