Re: Military coup in Turkey?

Erdogan has been "doing a Putin". When he had been Prime Minister for the maximum number of times, he effectively made himself President. And then he started moving more and more powers to himself.

The secular state was guaranteed by Turkey's founder Ataturk, with the military its guardians. But any rumour about anyone military considering a coup met with swift imprisonment by Erdogan.

He has shut down any voice against him: the media, lawyers, military....

He knows that Turkey cannot join the EU whilst North Cyprus is still occupied, but he refuses to talk peace. Throwing EU money at him to control migration through Turkey has been inflating his ego...

Sounds about right.

Maybe he's hoping to find other means by which to leverage his way into the EU.

Re: Military coup in Turkey?

Oh well if Chris Bryant says it's brexits fault it must be I mean it's not like there is an egotistical power crazy loon running things but thinking about it that pretty much sums up his party at the minute complete with fanatics happy to use violence. These days you can always rely on a labour mp to make excuses for everything if they put half as much effort into actually coming up with solutions to problems instead of excuses people might vote for them.

Let's not hold our breath though or cable forum will lose a few members.

Re: Military coup in Turkey?

Images of Turkish soldiers being tortured and lynched by Pro Erdogan supporters are doing the rounds. Starting to think about taking it back and realising these supposed 'Civillians' probably deserve to be shot at. Outrage because of shots being fired and responding to that after a surrender by torturing people? Absolute filth. Defending democracy my arse, its an outright dictatorship.

That's not proper punishment or justice, that's barbaric and to think they have the audacity to apply to the EU. Get rid of the goatf (explicit) - Boris Johnson's words. First.

What an absolute state Turkey is in. Starting to wish Russia had hammered Erdogan and his puppets after that Jet incident.

To clear it up too, there were two sets of civilian responses last night. Those defending their right to a democracy and those out there on Erdogan's order. The latter of which are responsible for occupying tanks and torturing soldiers. Erdogan is also finger pointing across borders, madman.

Re: Military coup in Turkey?

I think we've just been given a jolly good reason why Turkey ought not to be allowed anywhere near the EU. Odd eh? Has it happened because of Brexit or because of Brexit?

Powerful forces at work here...

Re: Military coup in Turkey?

In a sense Erodgan now has a platform to cry for even more power? There were suggestions it was staged for his own benefit.

Sources saying just that are being silenced in Turkey. It's also noted that "secular judges" are being rounded-up and imprisoned.

Re: Military coup in Turkey?

There's no hope. Its the same old follow the lead of the US/ NATO whom would never really risk dampening relations with Turkey because they're just so close to Russia and who doesn't love plonking their jets that close! So any sense of morality goes out of the window when it comes to actually questioning Erdogan and his dictator like leadership. So long as Turkey allow their land to be used for US reasons then everyone just has to turn a blind eye. The response of the western world for Turkey downing a Russian jet over a 17 second excursion really showed the attitude to Turkey as a whole. Had it been the other way round I feel certain that Russia would have been condemned.

They're mess of a country with countless problems that are simply ignored because they serve the United States' best interests.

Erdogan sent his public into the street. Some civillians, some thugs. 250 dead. Soldiers tortured and countless things wrong with his response and all the US is bothered about is the finger pointing. Embarrasing to have a country like that representing NATO and it would be pretty astonishing to see them get anywhere near EU membership. The EU of course being noted for its human rights etc. Something Erodgan and Turkey forget exists.

Re: Military coup in Turkey?

Becoming dangerously more blatant now that this was a false flag. Specific arrests and the sheer number only further solidifies this was a predetermined list before hand and has allowed Erodgan unanimous support to purge whomever or whatever he wants.

Re: Military coup in Turkey?

Sadly yes it's very obvious now this was a staged coup to enable erodgan to eliminate all remaining opposition and the silence from the international community is deafening. NATO is having a meeting later in the week and this will feature strongly I suspect but there needs to be something from the international community and any suggestion of Turkey joining the eu is now off the table if there is any sense. How quickly the roundups happened and the groups targeted give the biggest evidence that this was a stage managed incident with a very clear agenda.

Re: Military coup in Turkey?

I think it is class that you have an American President, advising the Turkey government to take on the Coup plotters within the rule of law and thus, avoid re-introducing the Death Penalty on them.

How many American States, still have the Death Penalty again?

Re: Military coup in Turkey?

Started rounding up educators now can't have too much of that free thinking got to stamp that right out and to think we thought stuff like this was just deepest Africa or south America not right on Europe's doorstep. Still long as they are dealing with immigrants let's not say too much I'm sure immigrants are treated really well by this regime .
