Very volatile situation and really hoping it isn't the side of their military that believes in stronger action against Russia could be a very dangerous period ahead.

Can't win. Erdogan is a dictator. Absolutely full of crap and as corrupt as they come. Just look at his comments on it. Telling Turks to take to the streets. +1to Erdo to take to the streets instead... Didn't think so :erm:

So again. Erdogan is a madman but like above, no one actually knows the outcome of a successful coup.

Erdogan via Skype though. Absolute coward. NATO country and all. ISIS oil and imprisoning anyone that dares speak ill about lord president.

With a bit of luck maybe people are just that fed up with how things are done.

So is this a good thing or a bad thing? I didn't think things were that bad in Turkey considering their application to join the EU?

Don't know the answer because no one knows the ultimate goal. Before the coup its been about Erdogan being astonishingly corrupt with no repercussions for it, naturally Turkey would've been blocked from the EU via the UK but honestly it wouldn't set a great example for any decision to allow them in whilst Erdogan remains.

A quick Google of Erdogan corruption or dictator will tell you what happens when the news doesn't bother to report it here.

So you overthrow the government and the grass doesn't turn out to be greener and its worse. As above its pretty volatile at the minute because nobody has a clue.

Removing people like Erdogan without a military coup is ideally a better outcome.

Summary. Turkish government are notoriously corrupt and bad, no one knows if the military plans are better or worse. Grim.

Rumours that Ergodan is attempting to flee the country. Same guy that's consistently berated social media for freedom of speech against him is now using it to rally the public. Brilliant.

Remember how well Syria went?

Absolute mess. If it is to solely to oust Ergodan and co we can hardly complain about the mess, world leaders knew he was dictator-esque and corrupt and turned a blind eye. Barely a few months ago he ousted his PM and placed a puppet in charge.

Horrifying mess this. An anti Erdogan military coup coupled with Erdogan himself urging his supporters to take to the streets and basically confront the military? Is he serious?

Erdogan is one thing and yeah he's as corrupt as they come but you could cause a civil war this way. It's a country split. As above there's sources floating around of the military firing upon civilians. Wants rid of dictator. Shoots at Civilians to do so. Doesn't quite come off does it.

There's no good to come from this at all if the above is confirmed.

Civilians have now taken control of tanks. Clashes between soldiers and civillians ongoing and now confirmed.

Tanks are now pancaking cars as gunshots reign out in Istanbul. Turkey is now basically a Warzone.

General intelligence building blown up.

Appearances on TV by commanders confirm this isn't a full out military coup and is limited it seems. No clue who is spearheading it.

If there is loyal military remaining surely that is a better option than sending your civilian public to stand in front on tanks.

Is possible Sonic booms are being misreported as explosions. Eyewitness claims there's been no bombing in Istanbul.

If Turkish sources are to be believed then its almost at an end with only pockets of soldiers still active. Huge explosion reported at 02:00 but again I'd wait in case its merely a low flying jet.

Parliament building hit by bomb. 12 reported dead.

All in all it looks like a failed coup now as pointed out. They failed to take Erodgan before he disgustingly put his own followers in harms way because they also failed to take down online media which allowed Erodgan a platform to stage a counter albeit urging civilians to face armed men.

Best anyone could hope for now is a swift ending as there's only small segments of armed men left according to Turkish media.

Erodgan may have dodged the bullet this time but I don't think it will be long before it blows up again he is just a complete ******* and more and more Turks are seeing it and resenting it. I think the military jumped prematurely overestimating the public mood and assuming wider support that they didn't get in the end. If erodgan reacts in his normal manner there will now be a purge of the military that Stalin would be proud of which will ensure future plots.

NATO will not get involved as it's an internal matter and is not going to escalate beyond Turkey's borders erodgan could request assistance technically but his ego will prevent that. There will no doubt be some meetings within NATO as instability within a member nations military is not something that can be accepted and if this continues to any degree for any length of time I wouldn't be surprised if turkey is asked to suspend it's NATO membership.

As usual it will be the ordinary people that will suffer the most.

Well it's about time we had something really worrying to talk about either within the EU or on its borders eh.

It'll be interesting to see how the guilty are treated and what sort of recriminations there are. I guess it could all get very nasty.
