I think you have confused helping the OP with scoring meaningless points .. Do you have a shub2ac?

It talks about beam forming on the 5mhz frequency is that not increasing range?

ITT: People who are confusing range with performance at the same distance.

Does the OP have AC devices? If so, then yes. If not, then no.

Which is... as I said earlier, "faster wireless" ---------- Post added at 01:10 ---------- Previous post was at 01:07 ----------

There's no such thing as the '5mhz frequency range' however 802.11n also had (optional) beamforming.

Beamforming makes a contribution to 'improve[d] speeds relative to wireless n at the same distance'. Range is still limited by law and receive sensitivity, neither of which has changed in AC. When signal gets weak AC has to switch back to 'n' modes anyway because... they have longer range.

If we go down that path, we should dump all of our equipment the second it becomes out dated.

You're saying that OP might get some AC hardware down the line. I'm saying that if we took that approach, we should all dump our existing routers for a newer one just in case we get AC equipment down the line. Rather, it makes sense to hold off until you get or need AC devices, as by the the bugs should have been worked out (one would hope).

The reality is, unless OP has AC equipment, he won't see any advantage to the AC router, it's exactly the same but supports Wireless-AC. It won't have better range or throughput or anything like that unless it's paired with AC equipment.

There's also something else to consider - the fault reports of the SH2AC. It's hard to grasp how many are becoming faulty, partly due to the NDA of the testers, but enough people have mentioned it to be a concern. So if there's no AC equipment, it'd definitely be better to stick with the existing SH2.

Oh I'm sorry, is this a five minute argument, or the full half hour?

As far as I know, the OP was offered a free shub2ac to replace his (possibly faulty) shub2. Seems an easy decision to me ..

I had a problem with my shub2 which required a replacement plus I know a couple of people who have a shub2ac and so far have had no issues with them.
