I've uninstalled and reinstalled Avast but W7 is still telling me I have no AV on this machine. Weird. I also notice a rather odd message on the bottom right of the screen just about the systray - something along the lines of: "Windows 7 build ????. This copy of Windows is not genuine". It wasn't displayed in a window, just plain text on the desktop, hardly noticeable. It disappeared when I restarted the machine.
I found a possible fix for the Avast problem from another forum. You turn off AV warning notices via the action centre before shutting down and then reboot and turn them back on again. It seems to have worked so far.
