If I wanted to watch films on the EE film store I could take advantage of that as that is currently unlimited usage. If I needed unlimited usage I could have gone with Virgin Mobile that uses the EE network which has way better coverage than 3, lucky to get 1 bar with them round here.
My wife's nan doesn't have Internet, so when we go to visit or he kids go to see her (obviously she's their great gran) they use tethering. I also use it in some hotels as its MUCH cheaper than hotel wifi and Netflix and SkyGo or VM's TV Anywhere are cheaper than the hotel movie rental service.

There's also spotify and other streaming services I use on my phone

I also don't trust public wifi, there are many many instances where for me tethering is extremely useful. An I know for a fact my daughter tears through data at UNI, mostly on SkyGo.

I see, under them circumstances yes it would be important to have unlimited usage as you are using your mobile connection as if it were your home broadband connection. Where as the only time I tether is to download a song off iTunes on my iPod when I'm out, the rest of the time my mobile internet usage is limited to just using it on my phone. I just found 3G often too slow or even unreliable in busy areas. I rarely check my data usage though because I never go over, plus I have BT WiFi as part of my tariff.
