You do realise that Doctor's Surgeries (and GP-led Health Centres) are already privately owned and run as small businesses, don't you? (either by one doctor, a group of doctors, or a Management company) - the practice then claims from NHS Primary Care Organisation, with the money going to the Practice, rather than being contracted with individual doctors....

Re: Doctors set to stand as candidates in next general election
Hugh, for once can you get off your soap box, IF all these Doctors are going to stand against the government in the next election against this idiotic Health bill, doesn't this tell you something.
I will vote for them, this government are thinking of one thing - get rid of the NHS and lets all go private, and guaranteed most of Camerons cronies will get most of the funds to get it going, and poor old joe miggins will get let on the shelf.
There are plenty of Private health companies out there that are making money out of the sick, instead of getting it from the NHS, which was set up to look after the poor, which is now being ripped to pieces by Cameron - just as the Iron Lady did when she was in power.

Maybe the doctors are worried about being held accountable for poor service .You yourself have been very vocal about the rubbish service you have recieved in the past from your gp and local hospital ,the changes are designed to give the GP's total control of 80% of the entire NHS budget ,in other words Athur , the spending power is being taken out of government hands and given to the GP's ,who do you think will spend it wiser ?

Arthur, no soapbox, polemic or political slant was given - I was stating facts from the BMA (British Medical Association) website; the BMA is, and I quote from their website, the professional medical association and trade union for doctors and medical students (whose slogans is "Standing Up For Doctors").
Now I know you don't like providing links to your posts, but at least have the common courtesy to click on those that others provide, before you go off on a rant - there's a good lad.
Now, if the facts don't fit with your version of reality, I'd bet on the facts....

Re: Doctors set to stand as candidates in next general election
I understand their frustration and, having previously ignored the fuss over the NHS, I am now quite worried. I am getting more and more concerned that the Government is using the cover of a recession and 'updating the NHS' as an excuse to make ideologically driven cuts and to increase privatisation.
But this is a stupid idea. All they will do is spilt the vote and not from the Tories. Most of their voters will likely come from either Labour or the Lib Dems, if they stood in swing seats then they may actually be a massive electoral gift to the tories.

You have a brass neck saying get off your soap box, You need to look at yourself.
If my doctor does this I will move to one that is doing his job as a doctor and not moonlighting as an MP as well. I have enough problems getting an appointment without him doing another job as well
