All BBC HD channels have to be on all TV platforms that support HD in the UK.
Freeview did not support HD in 2006 when BBC HD launched.

Re: Do you want the BBC to have a third HD channel ?
It doesn't matter what your thoughts are or what you want to happen, the BBC is strapped for cash which is why the BBC HD channel is changing to a simulate of BBC2.
So stop banging on about an extra BBC HD channel as it will not be happening.
They will be getting the capacity for an extra channel but more than likely they will sell it to someone else.

If that were to happen. Then i think E4 HD , Film4 HD or More4 HD would get the slot.

Maybe even QVC HD That would be a bad choice IMO.

Anyway i am still hoping the BBC now launch a third HD channel next year . Probably a long shot. You never know i suppose.

Re: Do you want the BBC to have a third HD channel ?
We do know as the BBC have already told us their plans.
A lot of people use QVC so it would not be a bad choice for a new HD channel.

Re: Do you want the BBC to have a third HD channel ?
No other broadcaster was interested when the freeview slot was last advertised just 3 months ago, so there would be little reason for C4 etc to be interested now.
So i not sure what will happen to the freeview slot.

Right. So the rule for the BBC is, if they can support a platform, they should. If they can't support a platform, that doesn't stop them supporting others. Which leaves us right back where we started: lack of capacity on Freeview is no barrier to the BBC doing anything on any other platform.
The barrier right now is lack of money, a fact you would have been aware of if you were genuinely interested in this subject.
That is what renders your poll pointless.

Could be wrong but I've found hd channels to work on non hd tvs.. Therefore never really understood the point of having a duplicate hd and sd channel.. Why not just ditch bbc1 in favour of bbc1 hd, and same with itv1 in favour of itv1 hd etc just show the hd version of the channel, seeming as they aren't subscription channels anyway Instead of duplicating channels.. That in itself would free up bandwidth for new channels.

That could work in the long term however cant work right away as none hd freeview boxes/TV's wont bee able to decode the HD freeview signal (i beleave) meaning if they did that right now anyway with a standard freeview box/tuner would loose access to BBC1/2 ITV and C4

What could most likely happen is that we get BBC One HD, BBC Two HD and BBC HD (for other channels)

They don't have the money to do that though. Which is why the BBC HD channel is changing to BBC2 HD.

Plans can change

In August, C21 reported the BBC would wind down its red button video services accessed on platforms such as Freeview (through non-connected TVs) after the Olympics to free up additional bandwidth to launch high-definition versions of its channels. Existing video services offered via the red button will move online.

Ofcom have said the spare capacity will be handed back to the BBC. The BBC now have the option to launch another BBC HD channel on freeview.
The BBC can offer the spare capacity to some else ie C4. So channel 4 could launch E4 HD , Film4 HD or More4 HD on freeview.
