You've uninstalled SP2, so SP1 is correct.

Re: How do I get rid of Windows Vista (TM) Evaluation copy. Build 6002

what does it say under product activation?

Install service pack 2 again download the redist though not through windows update

I spose you could uninstall SP1 and then install both in order from redist backup first though just in case

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en sp1 redist

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en sp2 redist

Do NOT change anything in the registry!

The build number for the released version of SP1 begins 6001.18000
if it is less than 18000, it's a pre-release version.
Hmm........well that's a bit too much like rocket science for me lol!

right click my computer and select properties

at the bottom is the product activation information what does it say

If it says product activated I would install SP2 from the link I posted ( I am assuming you are on 32 bit Vista)

It says windows is activated, and gives the product code. Ok Zing will reinstall SP2, seems a lot of bother to go to just to remove the watermark, perhaps I can live with it after all lol!

Is it on the right of the desktop, just above where the system tray (clock etc) is?

you really need to keep windows upto date so irrelevent of the watermark you need sp2 back on there and then the rest of windows updates. At least you know your Vista isnt gonna timebomb in a couple of days lol

Exactly. If the diagnosis in post #3 is correct, and you had a pre-release version of SP2, it would have expired some time in 2010. Better to get it sorted now.

Whilst I am waiting for this download to complete. How could I have gotten myself this pre-release version of SP2? I'm not that clever.

5 minutes remaining.................

Yippeeeeeeeee!!!!! 100% successful and the offending watermark has completely disappeared. Incidentally Zing when I started the SP2 download it said it was making a restore point, so I was happy with that. Many thanks to all who came to my aid. Nominations in the offing!
