How do I get rid of Windows Vista (TM) Evaluation copy. Build 6002

I have this watermark on my desktop, don't know how it got there, or what it means, and it's now beginning to niggle me a bit. Is there a non geeky way to get rid of it? It is on the bottom right of my desktop screen.

It means you're on an evaluation copy (designed to be used for a few months as a trail) so if you bought it as a full copy you've been conned.

did you install SP2 before its official release?

Then again looking further into it SJL is correct in pointing out it's a pre-release of SP2, just follow the instructions in his link and you should be fine

I'll now go and hide :)

Followed instructions in the link from SJL, took ages to uninstall KB948465. My computer is now doing a lot of 'thinking' and I still have the watermark, only now it reads Windows Vista (TM) Evaluation copy. Build 6001. Another question, when service pack 2 is removed does it matter that I have service pack3 still? :erm:

Hmmm... confusing. Google indicates the watermark may go away after a couple of reboots. It also indicates that if you were running a pre-release copy of SP1 (another possible explanation), it would have expired by now. I'm also concerned about SP3. As far as I can tell by googling, there is officially no such thing, but there are some 'dodgy' downloads about which purport to be SP3.

If it was XP I'd do a full repair then reinstall the SP's/updates, not sure about vista as I've never touched it (to much stuff in it that slows it down for CAD purposes)

No wonder you are confused SJL, I have had another look at installed updates, and the update that I was looking at was Word View 2003 service pack 3 etc, so I took it I had service pack3. How do I know If I have a pre-release copy of SP1?

Vista does not have a SP3 ?????

right click my comp select properties and tell us what you see under activation

In control panel goto programs and features and click view installed updates and look for SP2(service packs) and see what it says

I had the watermark on mine it was from a beta copy of the service pack, it is supposed to disappear after uninstalling the beta and installing the full released version of the service pack. It may also disappear after a certain date, I know the beta service pack had a expiry date. Otherwise if its a full version best option would be to try reinstalling the service pack again.

Hmm.. well, if you are feeling brave

http://dotnetwizard.net/vista-stuff/...mber-in-vista/

Do NOT change anything in the registry!

The build number for the released version of SP1 begins 6001.18000
if it is less than 18000, it's a pre-release version.

Ok Zing it's just me being stupid, I don't appear to have SP2 either maybe deleting KB948465 did away with that. Have right clicked my comp and I have SP1 according to info there. I also have in Windows Updates, service pack (no number) KB936330, take it that is SP1. Do you want to start again lol?
