Re: A politician speaks the truth!!
So, we have an MP apparently struggling to get by on 65K a year, yet we have people in the lower echelons of the civil service who are continually under the threat of outsourcing, in some case receive regular death threats (and no extra protection) and are expected to live on a fraction of that. I am not saying that all Civil Service employees are good, concientious workers. Far from it. There are some excellent ones, but a lot of bad ones.

Re: A politician speaks the truth!!
I being honest am not fully aware of exactly what an mp's week usually consists of but i doubt it is just about westminster and probably doesn't always involve sociable hours so maybe 65k isn't a lot for what they do. I suspect here we have one mp saying what a great many others from all the party's are saying when no one is around to report it.

People who think that way have got government they deserve. There are around twenty different national parties in the UK. There is a wide choice.

Re: A politician speaks the truth!!
Ah yes, the choices are endless..
Let's see now. We have the right-leaning New Labour party, the left-leaning New Conservatives and hardly a whisker between them in policy. We have the New Hopeful party AKA LibDems with no experience of running anything more complex than a village Fete. And then a variety of flavours of typically British nutters bringing up the rear.
Hmmm, decisions decisions..
If I looked at them in the same way I judge an eBay seller I'd never give a penny to any one of the sad bunch let alone control of my future.
At the end of the day I'm looking at who is going to take the least of my money to throw at unworthy causes.

There's nothing "nutty" about serveral of the smaller parties. Just policies you either support or you don't. It looks likely that apathy will win and one of the mainstream parties will get elected. We then all carry on as before. Freakin fantastic.
The British people have such power if only they'd realise it.

Re: A politician speaks the truth!!
I'd seriously be interested to hear of any non-mainstream party that can offer a broad range of workable ideas.
So many of them seem to be one trick ponies.
Leave the EU. Nice idea but is it really workable. And where do they stand on all the other stuff that matters?
Trouble is, in real life nobody wants to employ someone without experience. It's just too much of a gamble. Why should running my world be any different?

just to play devils advocate ,who else thinks that top ministers and the pm's wage (i believe the pm's wage is about 170,000 p/a)isn't actualy alot when compared to footballers, top bankers and and managing directors of some companies ,after all running a country (however badly)is quite a big gig and carries much more responsibility than some jobs with twice the wage

I agree, the power to say "NO, I won't vote for any of you ****!" The power to stay away from the voting booth.
But that will never happen now, will it?

Why not find out for yourself? Correct me if I am wrong, but perhaps you have only read the pro-mainstream propaganda? Check what the parties themselves say. I also think it is perhaps unreasonable to expect all the small parties to have a full and detailed manifesto as they don't have the resources that the mainstream parties have. That kind of detail will come as they gain support.

If everyone took your attitude nothing will change and we will truly have the government we deserve. And it's 'experienced' politicians who have mucked the country up.

Voter turnout has been down in recent years. So it is happening. I don't really think it's an option for me. The mainstream gets in too easily that way.
A spoilt ballot paper is a better option than simply staying away. At least that way, a voter is not counted amongst the apathetic.

that's not what i mean
i mean is it a realistic wage compaired to the private sector jobs with less responsibility and a much higher wage
i personally think if you make it easier to get rid of dodgy politicians then we would feel comfortable paying them more ,then if they don't give us the performance expected of them we can boot them out

Re: A politician speaks the truth!!
On reflection Freezin you make some good points.
When all is said and done could a different and inexperienced party have us in a bigger mess than the 'big boys' have dropped us into right now?

That's just because footballer's, top bankers and managing directors of some companies not to mention some pop stars, movie stars, TV Presenters and even lowly newsreaders are all obscenely overpaid.

Re: A politician speaks the truth!!
MP's should be paid enough to keep them honest and not prone to bribery or blackmail.
