Re: A politician speaks the truth!!

yeah i saw this on the news earlier ,had to laugh , this blokes a millionaire for god's sake he wouldn't know what "rations" were if they fell on his head
i'm self-employed ,a window fitter for the local authorities ,all our rates have just been dropped without any notice so now i have to fit 2 extra windows per day to make the same money
here's an idea ,lets make the mp's work longer hours for less pay and see how they like it ,,but we'll have to wait untill they come back off the summer break

Re: A politician speaks the truth!!

You can bet your last pound that Mr Duncan's first words were his true feelings, not the standard spiel he gushed when he realized he was being recorded.
The same goes for an awful lot of MP's who regarded the old expenses system as a part of their wages entitlement, if they don't think they can manage on £65pa plus expenses then go work full time in the city. Rather that than the part time some MP's work so as to supplement their "meager" salaries:sarcastic:
According to Duncan "nobody in the outside world will want to come into this place because of the poor conditions", well that might be the case in terms of merchant bankers, city workers and the like but so what!! hopefully it'll encourage more people from the real world to become MP's, teachers, doctors and everyday working folk, people who honestly want to make a difference for society, not those who want to feather their own nests first.

Well he's got form for making outrageous statements in the past.

Another 'joke' that was taken the wrong way.

I saw that on Have I Got News For You. It really was a (poorly advised) joke. He is gay, she made a statement which was perceived as negative regarding gay marriage. He made a joke which was intended to show his annoyance and an attempt to be funny on a program where he is meant to be funny.

It's poor taste because of his position as an MP, but it's not really bad. We all make jokes which could be considered wrong if taking literally.

Politicians often speak the truth, it's just that they normally do it out of the electorate's earshot....

Some comments given in a relaxed enviroment by someone who thought they were off the record i am not going to slam him for it even though i dislike the guy for other reasons because i can remember many times where if i had been filmed i would have been in far more trouble. What he says to a point like it or not is true we need to have professional people in the house of commons and if we in the name of public trust make it so hostile to be an mp we will end up with badly experienced people and unqualified people making far far worse decisions. Want proof of that look at our current government and the amount of people in jobs that they are clearly not cut out for defence minister is one that jumps right out for a start.

Let's not get too excited about this. I imagine most of us have exaggerated for effect when bantering with someone or trying to make them laugh or otherwise make a point.

Indeed they are, perhaps I should rephrase. How about:

Duncan's just one of many damn good reasons not to vote tory!

:D

And there are so many damn good reasons to vote Labour.

(if only I could think of them......)

If the guy is a millionaire as reported by the media then I guess 64k does seem like small change.

I bet that most of us would like the chance to struggle with such a pittance..
