Do you subscribe to any of the Sky services or are you using it as a Freesat box?

Subscribe to the full package minus sports and movies.
I bought the HD box off eBay. Plugged it in and called them up to switch the viewing card number over. Then after a day called them up again, got nowhere and finally got through to someone who had something resembling a clue and got it sorted in a few minutes.
Since then its worked absolutely fine.

All you need in order to keep Sky's PVR service operating is an active Sky subscription at any level, HD or not. That's why yours is still working. If you don't subscribe to any Sky packs IIRC you have to pay £10 a month just to keep the PVR function going.

correct me if I'm wrong but it isn't as HD as a BLU RAY disk cos it's 720p not 1080p?

Both Sky & VM supply 'HD' at maximum of 1080i
If you want to argue 'true' HD is 1080p, then neither VM nor Sky are delivering, but while many 'HD' screens are still limited to 1080i, it is academic.
BluRay disks on my 22" 1680x1050 monitor look fantastic - but so do x264 720p movie files - in my opinion if it looks ok, don't worry what the numbers say

Sky now see them as a threat and lower the price to less than the V+ box.
There must be something big for Sky to slash their top of the range flagship box by £101!
Sky scared maybe?

I doubt Sky feel remotely threatened by Cable. Whilst cable has said "three or four" HD channels are coming Sky have added another 2. By the time cable add theirs (if they add them) Sky may have added another 1 or 2 so there would be parity. Cable more than ever need this new samsung out box out pronto and a bit cheaper than the £150.
I would say Chris is correct, that Sky are more threatened by freesat (and in a year or twos time, freeview). Sometime in the summer/autumn ITV HD will become a proper channel. Sometime in the not so distant future C4 will appear on freesat. When that happens people flogging freesat will be able to say three HD channels for free, that's a really big deal. Sky are pre-empting this, luring people in who will then be tied into 12 month contracts, when the contract runs out some of them may well stay with sky. It makes good business sense to try and flood the market 6 months before freesat HD content increases and a year or so before freeview HD gets bedded down.

Crumbs - we may have BBC HD and up to 4 or 5 HD channels by Spring, when Sky have just added SciFi HD making 31 channels in HD. I am ready to jump ship if I can - those dreaded trees at the rear have been lopped back so I might be able to align a dish under the bulk and point up. Will see....

HD is still HD it doesn't matter if its 720p, 1080i or 1080p.
Most people that have HD TVs only have 720p/1080i sets anyway.

Why's that?
I have had a V+ for a couple of years now, and love it.
