Sky "slash" price of SkyHD box. Could this be related to virgin getting HD share?

Quote:

Sky has cut the purchase price of its flagship Sky+ HD box from £150 to £49 with immediate effect.
Could this slash be anything to do with Virgin getting more High Def channels?
Sky now see them as a threat and lower the price to less than the V+ box.
There must be something big for Sky to slash their top of the range flagship box by £101!

Sky scared maybe?

When they drop the £10 month charge I'll be interested, until then the box could be free and I still wouldnt have it.

Scared of Freesat as much as anything else, I reckon. There are people out there who want HD but aren't interested in subscription-based channels. But if Sky can reduce the cost of getting Sky+HD and trying out the subscription for a few months so that it's cheaper than going the Freesat route, they may attract some people to give it a go.

Of course if they do that only later will they discover that on cancelling their subscriptions the PVR functionality will cease working ...

:O . Dont the customers buy the equipment from sky?
sky shouldnt have the right to be able to do that, should they?

They do it just now with the normal V+ as well as the HD version. No subscription no PVR. :erm: :erm:

I thought you still got BBCHD and Channel 4 HD if you didn't pay the £10 subs? :/

Edit:
I wonder if you could try it on with Virgin, and get the V+ for £45 too :p

Yup - but I don't think you get to record them.

You can. I've got a Sky HD box and don't pay the HD subs yet the PVR functions work as they should.

Excellent - no reason why I shouldn't get one then.

I would have thought so, usually have to do at least a 12 month contract.

Still, in my case at least, I'm interested - especially with free install too.
