Re: Looks like I'm connected via Wireless, but IE doesn't agree
i had this issue the other day with a netgear router where the pc was connected to the network and would ping but IE didnt work. I just assigned the DNS to opendns on the router and it solved the problem. that was a talktalk line so im not sure if its a different issue. God i hate ADSL

Sounds like your router doesnt have an internet connection. Reset the modem and the router, start the modem wait for the ready light to become solid then turn the router on.

Re: Looks like I'm connected via Wireless, but IE doesn't agree
Thanks, but that doesn't work. Using the second option, setting up without the VirginMedia software, step 2 just gives me a can't connect message in IE. If I then plug in via LAN, I get the set up pate you mention. I give it a new name and password, and it exits automatically. When I unplug and open up IE again, I get the same old can't display message. If I plug in a LAN cable again and type in the IP address of the router, it asks for a username and password that I don't know.
Arghh!!!!
Thanks for trying to help everyone.

Okay, so you're connecting but no data is being transferred. That sounds like electronical interference to me, with 90+% packet loss.
Switch the wireless channel to 1, 6, or 11 and see which is more stable.

If that did not work and I know it should then you need to call Tech Support for help.

Re: Looks like I'm connected via Wireless, but IE doesn't agree
I'll bet if you try
you will get 'no adapter is in a permissable state...'
Your IP address should be 192.168.1.x NOT 192.168.0.x
You either have a fixed IP or you're connected to someone else's router.
If you get the above message then go to the control panel click switch to classic view if in cayegory view - open network connections right click the wireless connection click properties select internet protocol tcp/ip click porperties and set obtain an ip adress automatically and obtain dns servers automatically.
Unless of course you are using Vista.

Re: Looks like I'm connected via Wireless, but IE doesn't agree
Woo Hooooooo! Thanks Joxer, you're a star! I did get the permissable state error message and I made the changes to tcp/ip properties that you recommended, and here I am, sat on my couch, all wireless and happy. Will have to change my username now... :-)
THANKS.
