Indeed... A parent's first instinct is to protect their children whether the kids are in the right or wrong. So its really no suprise you get the outrage. I remember there was a plan to bring in fingerprint/biometric scanning to combat truancy & library lending fraud, but parents were absolutely apopalytic about this.

, i can just see them fingerprinting at the library too.

actually, im just waiting for my daughters school to phone me back (been waiting since 9am )
if your child has a day off, i like to call them immediatly, but they have an automated service that calls you, and once when i phoned rather than waiting for the automated service, they didnt log it, and she was marked in (they assumed she'd be in as she's very rarely off)
now, this worried me, incase of fire, they'd have sent a fireman in to look for her
anyhow, she was ill thurs/fri and im still waiting for the automated call
think i'll call them now actually

Re: Would You Allow Your Child To Be Searched?

The problem as I see it is that children already view school as a prison/ghetto to be endured/survived so making a school like a fortress may make that viewpoint even harder to change and deal with.Plus most of the stabbings that have occurred have occurred outside the school gates and outside school hours.

I think there is no one measure that can sort this out..it has to be a variety of measures.I personally would like to see more curfews imposed on children/teens though it must be acknowledged not all knifings/shootings occur at night.Parents who allow their offspring to roam the streets late into the evening really need to be jumped on as not doing their duty by their children.

There is a bit of a difference between fingerprinting children and a few random bag searches.

Re: Would You Allow Your Child To Be Searched?

While i have no problem in principle with searches i do have a problem with where the money would come from and how effective they would actually be. Unless some form of perimeter monitoring was going on then the machines would be a waste of time. Many schools have budget problems already and this would badly affect many schools if they had to implement it and maintain it. Being honest i would be happier for money to be put into schools to spot the problems before they turn up with a knife wanting to kill someone.
