Would You Allow Your Child To Be Searched?

Following the latest stabbing of a school pupil... and having spoken to my own childs head teacher on this matter,

would you be happy if your childs school introduced metal detectors, and bag searches?

i know i wouldnt have a problem with it, and as the saying goe's, prevention is better than the cure...

your thoughts please...

As long it wasn't a "hands on" search I wouldn't have any problems with it.

TBH I doubt it would stem the problem of knives coming in. I think any search that thorough would be too impractical to be of any real benefit.

However it might solve the problem of the staggering amount of porn distributed around schools. Although its pretty victimless i'd have thought, but might cheer some parents.

i do know my daughters head teacher would like to see it introduced, but i think they'll find more than knives and porn

i found out the other day, a lad who i thought was an angel  is apparantly seling dope

I would have no objections.

Evolution in action - if the kids knew it was happening (be it regular or random) and they still got caught (with whatever), they're not really the sharpest knife in the utensil drawer, are they?

im all for respecting everyones opinions...

but elsewere i put this same question forward, and there was outrage

outrage that i'd allow it, or even contemplate suggesting it

but in my own defense, i said as a parent if my child were to be carring any knives i'd want it nipped in the bud (not that i think she would)

not only that, a weapon can be just as easliy turned on the person who originally had it :(

Mostly parents are convinced little Johnny and little Jenny are angels personified. They don't believe and don't want to believe that they can actually be horrible scrotes capable of murder. Anyone who's ever gone to a parent to complain about their child will know. Consequently they'd rather not know who's got knives which seems crazy considering it might be there kids who are stabbed.

I'm not against it from a human rights perspective, although I can see their point. People voluntarily fly and submit to searches but for something (virtually) mandatory such as school, searches would be considered to be identical to the stop-and-search laws that are used on the street, and therefore can't be arbituary. I am against the idea as I think its impractical, won't stop the flow of blades in, and just cause far too much hassle. Anything worth smuggling, be it weapons, drugs, porn (advent of memory sticks), etc, can be concealed. If it were implemented, I wouldn't have any real objections I guess providing it was done reasonably well, but i'd tut about it a lot.

No problem with searches... as long as the person found with a blade is banned from school afterwards, locked up and flogged publicly.

I wouldn't have a problem with my child being searched, no.

i thought, no, i do know my child, but i dont think she is a complete ....even though as i say, she is utterly naive, and gets scared if she so much as see's a police chase on the bill

My dad was a copper. Sometimes if a young kid was out causing minor anti-social behavior he just used to take them home and let the parents sort it. The number of times he got horrendusly abused by said parents was quite staggering. Nevermind their scrote of a child was out past 10, drinking and hurling abuse at old ladies.

:doh::doh:

seriously, although im shocked at parents attitudes, im not surprised to hear this

i dunno really, perhaps my family has lead quite a sheltered life, and my daughter is either very naive or utterly backward ... but what in gawds name are these parents thinking of
i think the most lethal thing my daughter carries on her is her lip gloss :D ....

the same guy btw, hurled abse at me, because i said my daughter had the brand playboy cusions, lamp and pencil case.
i tried to explain that at first even i didnt know where the PB label originated from (yes im a litle slow on the uptake :erm:) but once my OH pointed that out to me, shes not allowed to wear any of the clothes.
but i didnt see what harm a few cusions and a pencil case could do

these parents eh, you know with their perfect angels for children  they ought to be running parenting classes :D

im not sure how this will do any good..
if ur mad enough to take a knife in a simple search/metal detector wont stop u - ur already planning to potentially murder someone so u already dont care about the rules so you will find a way to get the weapon inside

well, thinking about what another FM saisd also (even though he wouldnt object to his child being searched) i undertand now why it probably wouldnt work.

they would either have to be random searches (then you run the risk of certain kids being stereotyped as "that kind of child")
or compulsary, and as you say, they'd just find other means to hide it
