There will always be an element of perveived subsidy for different genres as of course everybody has different tastes.
The point was raised though as ESPN is actually a premium channel, not a basic sports channel like Eurosport or even Eurosport HD so it is obviously expensive to provide. We know how expensive Barclays Premier League costs to provide to pay the monkeys millions who play it!
It must certainly be more expensive than Sky Arts but I know where you are coming from.

The arts channels aren't premium channels; ESPN is.

ESPN channels are great part of the XL package they are the biggest reason for me have XL. Why dose some people just want more and more channels just for the sake of it. Surely it is about programe content that is important.

That's why many people want Sky Atlantic; it has new, award winning shows on it.

Yes, Sky Atlantic it looks good on the adds on Sky. But I do not think we will be getting it any time soon, Sky have used Atlantic to give two fingers up to Virgin and its customer. I remember get Sky One and was very excited be now I hardly watch it .

Mad Dogs was good but there is little we watch on Sky 1, it's encouraging they finally seem interested in UK productions though. Their rumoured purchase of Shine Productions (the biggest independent production company in the UK which they already have a share in, and was set up and run by Murdoch's daughter) is hopefully a sign that they have finally realised a lot of British people still prefer British programmes but we will see.
