Would they even be involved with negotiations with ESPN?
I am just guessing but it's more likely VM and ESPN cannot agree wholesale carriage terms under their own pricing structure.
As far as I can see ESPN are pretty platform neutral.

The real question should be:
Do you want these HD channels because there are programmes you really want to watch on them or is it just because Sky have them and you as a VM customer don't?
