Some Help Would Be Nice
I have a ntl 10MB broadband connection and have a Linksys WRT54GSV4 with firmware v 1.06.1
Desktop is connected wired and am getting the full speed down [1.18 MB/Sec] and up so all is well here.
Laptop is connected wireless and am only able to get on average 640 KB/Sec down which I think is only just over half the speed.
Router is set up on Channel 3 with .g only and I have tried other channels with no difference in speed.
It has to be something simple that I have overlooked but for the life of me I can't see it.
Can anyone help with settings.

Re: Some Help Would Be Nice
What's your distance to the router when you're getting 640 kB/sec??
What signal strength are you getting?
Are you using any encryption? Have you measured the speed with it off?

Re: Some Help Would Be Nice
Distance is no more than 10 feet and in same room, so no walls to block signal.
Signal strength is Excellent 54.0 Mbps
By encryption I presume you mean security. I am using WPA Personal with TKIP and a shared key.
No I have not tried it with the above off, would that make so much difference?

Re: Some Help Would Be Nice
Not sure, it's never made a great difference for me!
But hey, you've got nothing to lose by trying..
(So long as you don't leave it off...)

Re: Some Help Would Be Nice
Just out of interest, have you tried the laptop wired to the router, and see what speeds you get that way ?

Re: Some Help Would Be Nice
OK tested laptop wired and got full speed 1.18 MB/Sec. Have measured speed with WPA off and no difference in speed, still 640 kB/sec ish.
Anyone else with any suggestions. Have checked tech details and I should be able to get full speed wireless.

Re: Some Help Would Be Nice
You could try the forum here as it's a dedicated Linksys forum. Maybe try a third party firmware.

Re: Some Help Would Be Nice
Is it the laptop's wireless or is it the router at fault? Is the laptop b or g standard, is there a firewall, antivirus or similar at fault. What about the drivers loaded?

Re: Some Help Would Be Nice
No reason you shouldn't get the full 10mbit on 54g wireless ive managed to push 22 - 28mbits though the wireless lan at home without any problems (was a lan tranfer, netgear card in laptop > belkin router connected @ 54mbit > desktop connected to router via wired lan)
id try the new driver as suggested on that forum the posted above linked to
