Belkin F5D7230-4 Router Cutting Out with Blueyonder

I have a cable broadband connection with Telewest which is Blueyonder. I shared this between more than 1 PC in the house using the Belking F5D7230-4 router. It has been working fine for the last 6 months we've had it running but all of a sudden in the last month it has decided to cut out and lose the BB signal, when this happens the lights on the router for each PC go from green to orange.

I thought the problem was the main PC downstairs which I installed the router from initially. When I plug this PC into the router on its own, the relevant light will flicker but I get no internet working, but the cable signal is ok, because when I plug it directly from the modem it is fine.

If I plug one of the other laptops using the broadband into the router they seem to work fine, but as soon as I add another pc or laptop into the router it will cut out again. If I unplug the power and plug it back in again, it will work for a minute then cut out. So it seems to work ok with just 1 computer plugged into it, except the main one which doesnt seem to work at all, I dont know why.

I tried to upgrade the firmware and it says that my current firmware is 6.00.14 and the one it has for download is 4.05.03 and it wont install it.

I really dont know why this keeps happening and it really is annoying, can anyone suggest anytyhing to try?

Does anyone know if Telewest has changed anything which means we have to change some settings on the router manually?

So your router appears to be fine, normal download speeds etc, with just one PC, but not if you connect more than one PC?

Do your PCs have current antivirus and the like. Do you have anythign running that might be drawing a lot of bandwidth up or down, that you know about, or don't know about?

Is your connection reliable when you only have one PC connected directly to the modem (no router).

Answers to all of these questions will help to determine if it is broadband (unlikely), or something about your router (more likely) that has gone wrong.

Re: Belkin F5D7230-4 Router Cutting Out with Blueyonder

Cheers for the reply dude. The connection is absolutley fine when just connected to the modem, as I am now, with any of the PC's. One Pc connected to the router will work ok, althouhg sometimes, it will cut out but not as often a swhen more than one PC is added. As for antivirus software, my PC only has the Blueyonder PC guard that I have had since the start and the old Pc downstairs doesnt have anything running that wasn't before, same as one of the latptops I tried. I definitley think its the router that is the problem but I dont know if it just wants replacing or if its a setup issue?

Right then, if some of your PC's aren't protected properly, get those checked out. There are free antivirus programs out there - I quite like avast - and there are online based free scanners too - checkout Panda Software

As for the router, best option would be to do a "factory reset", to put it all back to the defaults. From there you can restart and make any tweaks needed.

Re: Belkin F5D7230-4 Router Cutting Out with Blueyonder

Hi I did a factory reset and went through the install wizard from the start again, and I managed to connect 3 computers to the router ok. I thought I'd sorted it, and then while browsing the net it cut out again, it lasted for about 10 mins, which is longer than it would do anyway.

Just to annoy me even more, Ive been trying to install the router once again but this time the wizard is saying there is a connection problem, it can't communicte with the router basically and the lan led for the inserted cable is constantly flickering rather than staying lit.
