Hard drive recorders and cable

I noticed Telewest have an integrated hard drive recorder but this is another £15 a month!
I am looking into buying a hard drive recorder but they all come with a Digital receiver. Is it possible to have cable tv and the Digital HDD recorder set up together. (I appreciate that one wont be able to record the cable tv - least I assume that is the case).
Has anyone done this and if so how is it all connected (I have a dvd player as well)
Cheers

to the forum.

You can get HDD recorders without integrated digital. AFAIK, you can record from Cable on these boxes, and there is no reason why you can't use one.
