Scam email, what should I do?

HI

I got this email not so long ago and it was sent again exactly the same minutes later. It shocked me at first but It has to be a scam to get my details but thought maybe I should let somebody know. Incidently I have not bought or tried to buy anything through worldpay.

Hello

My name is Dave and I am from the Support of WorldPay.

We have received the payment order (Removed,Receipt Date 09/07/2006) from you and we need to
make a verification of the details you have filled in, as we have received a notice from your card
service stating that there was a chargeback made by the owner of the card with which you have made
the payment and that your level of authorization has been altered during your last transaction.

This is a very serious matter. We have deducted the amount of the chargeback, GBP 149.89, from
your account and added our standard fee of GBP 24.00 as well (you can see your payment details in
the attachment).

We have failed to contact you using the telephone number you have provided earlier, meeting no
response.

As a precaution, we have limited access to your account in order to protect against future
unauthorized transactions. Please understand that this is a security measure intended to help
protect you and your personal information.

Please contact your credit card company to resolve this matter.

Best Regards,
Dave Gollick
shopper@uk.worldpay.com

The email comes from a guy with an NTL email address. Should I send this info to anybody?

Re: Scam email, what should I do?

No!! Never give out any sort of details (especially financial ones) to anyone. Have you checked your bank account to see if any withdrawals have been made fromn your account for that amount? I'd tell your bank about the email anyway, as sometimes scammers target several customers from one particular bank at once.

Re: Scam email, what should I do?

the address for reporting email abuse is

http://www.ntlworld.com/netreport

for advice on what to submit, see the relevant section here

http://www.ntlworld.com/helpsupport/...ernetabuse.php

if you don't have anything to do with Worldpay it is definitely some kind of scam, I get similar from Natwest, even though i don't have an account I am regularly invited to update my 'details'

I wonder if the attachment tries to load a keylogger that then waits for you to check your card balance on line ?????

Re: Scam email, what should I do?

I have checked my acount and that is good so far, touch wood!

I tried to fill out the abuse form but it wouldn't submit without an IP address of that guy who sent the mail. That's a pity.

Thanks for all your advice all, much appreciated.

Re: Scam email, what should I do?

Look at the Worldpay site (http://www.worldpay.co.uk/):
Quote:
IMPORTANT NEWS: Bogus email: in the last few hours some customers have received at least one email from a 3rd party pretending to be WorldPay - some using the bogus address merchant@uk.worldpay.com / shopper@uk.worldpay.com and the name Dave Gollick - but other names and addresses may also be used. This email is not from WorldPay - we recommend you delete it and do not open any attachments it may contain.

Just received this email myself and I haven't got an account with worldpay. Also my virus scanner found a virus in the attachment

Warning: NOD32 antivirus system found the following in the message:
ID 0220712.zip - a variant of Win32/TrojanDownloader.Small.NIH trojan - deleted
ID 0220712.zip > ZIP > ID 0220712.exe - a variant of Win32/TrojanDownloader.Small.NIH trojan
