I cannot get the "Experts" at PC world to understand that a cannot connect ,my modem because one connection is a USB, & the other is the jack socket, they said well you dont need the modem, but itstates clearly in the instructions theis does not replace a modem. what do i need to get to work with the speed touch modem.

Re: Linksys + NTL
Was the speedtouch 330 supplied by NTL?
Is that normal practice?
Doesn't it have just USB out (no RJ45 ethernet), is that what you mean?
Sounds like you need a USB router, or at least a router with at least one USB socket.

Hi Micken
Was the speedtouch 330 supplied by NTL? BJW Yes
Is that normal practice? BJW Yes
Doesn't it have just USB out (no RJ45 ethernet), is that what you mean? No it has a lead fixed internally to the speedtouch with USB plug on the end, which connects to the computer
Sounds like you need a USB router, or at least a router with at least one USB soc, BJW Taking everyting back to PC World, they drove me up the wall on the phone, they said youhave to get the right modem from NTL!!!, I think as PC Worls have advised me 3 times on which set of kit to but I think its in their court, I even take the modem in with me & explain what computers i intend to put on the network, Anyway thanks for the reply I have decided to take everything back & get my money back
Thanks again

Re: Linksys + NTL
Just done a bit of googling. It seems that the Speedtouch is an ADSL modem, so, therefore, you are connecting through a BT phone line, and not the NTL network. Am I correct?
If so, the easiest option would be to get an ADSL router , such as the Linksys WAG54G. Note, if that link doesn't work, just go to http://www.linksys.com and search for wag54g

Re: Cannot connect speedtouch modem to router.
The speedtouch 330 is supplied with NTL Freedom ADSL - hence the confusion at PCWorld (as soon as you mention NTL they will assume 'NTL Cable' not ADSL).
Bottom line, as Stu says, you need an ADSL modem router, such as the WAG54G.

Re: Cannot connect speedtouch modem to router.
Hi Brian, you've been given good advice now.
Two solutions are:
1. Speedtouch 330 modem + usb router as I suggested
2. Replace both of above with single box WAG54g as Stuart and Aragorn suggest.
Let us know how you get on.
Best regards
Mick

Re: Cannot connect speedtouch modem to router.
You need to get yourself the Linksys WAG54G as this has a modem built into it, a wireless device and a 4 port hub. There are two different types of Router ythoose for ADSL and those for cable, it is not totally impossible to get your ADSL external modem to work with the router you have, although it is much easier just to buy the Linksys WAG54G as its neater and easier to set up.
Sadly the people in PC World are mostly out to make comission and 50% of them no nothing about PCs and even less about networking.
Hope the above helps though.
Thanks
