looking at that zing, you need some more air flowing to your GPU and quick......

why? its only 52 degrees ???? Its passive cooled I know its crap but its not a gaming machine.Im waiting till friday to buy my freezer 7 cuz aria are having a rush hour day different products on offer for an hour so hopefully something will crop up,Ive though about bodging a 80 mm fan to the gfx should be doable but its not going to be a gfx machine,If i keep it its main job will be video encoding (good ole netburst)

Re: [Merged] 4.1 Ghz Dual Core Pentium 805 Monster

while it may seem ok to you, and it is for a short time IMO, for the sake of a larger low rate fan mounted to the front inner case your going to get a far better airflow to the back and also help the cpu fan do its thing too.

personally, id rather try and source the largest copper heatsinks with lots of long fins, and fit these to a main encoder machine (you got an ati X1600 or better for the GPU encoding ?) cpu/northbridge/gpu/etc rather than rely on fast and noisy fans, but it seems really hard to find large cost effective copper heatsinks in your local computer shop, arr well

any req on current silent (or near as possible) PSU's that are cheap and plentiful, to spec too is always a good thing, my current one is on its way out and the 5 V is wondering below 4.5 v at times Arrrrrrr.

Ran SuperPi on my P4 just for comparison - 1M took 40 seconds, so that is really a fast CPU for the price

And for the record, I've got a P4 3.2GHZ Extreme Edition (Gallatin core, or also called the "Northwood Extreme Edition").

Do you reckon 4.1 would kill it then?

Water.

I tghink 3.8 will just about be its absolute max on air, they're saying the top Zalman fan can take it upto about that, so the arctic may manage it.

Re: [Merged] 4.1 Ghz Dual Core Pentium 805 Monster

Hope you have a nice cool beer with you. I was reading that original article - a typical PC munches 500W at 4.1GHz . You're not so far away now.

That's not far off being a fan heater.

Re: [Merged] 4.1 Ghz Dual Core Pentium 805 Monster

The stock fan is keeping the temp constant it wont be heat that stops this until the vcore has to go up.None of the reviews ive seen have had one at 3.8 gig on air let alone stock cooling for so long. Its still running prime and has been running an hour,Ill screenie when prime has done an hour then ill do the sis test again. If its still alive lol

---------- Post added at 15:24 ---------- Previous post was at 15:08 ----------

1 hour into prime

---------- Post added at 15:44 ---------- Previous post was at 15:24 ----------

---------- Post added at 16:21 ---------- Previous post was at 15:44 ----------

Re: [Merged] 4.1 Ghz Dual Core Pentium 805 Monster

Looking good, i'm leaning more towards the D805 now over the 930... But i'm still unsure, the thing that decides it for me will be how high it can post on the Arctic cooling... If it hits 4Ghz on air i will most likely drop the 930 from my list of possibilities.

Can we get a SuperPi time at 3.79Ghz?
