What where why how?

I've had a 200 up to 18Mbit down but then the 300k upload restricted its' speed.

If the 250 can do full speed for the DOCSIS specs it supports it should be able to deliver close to 51Mbit.

Re: Best NTL modem?

Top speeds is one thing but what about stability!

How does the 250 rate ?

My bought 3100 has been great (when my SNR is >=30) and I'm loathed to change it unless its half-duplex starts to limit it.

Re: Best NTL modem?

My 3Com CMX modem appears to have a problem with the speed increase. Since yesterday morning the connection freezes mid way through any sizeable download (2+ Mb). Anyone else got a CMX?

Re: Best NTL modem?

My question would actually be power consumption as it is left on 24/7

Check on the mains adaptor, should give you maximum power usage

Re: Best NTL modem?

I had a Motorola 4100 up until last week, had it since NTL first ever brought out Broadband.

It started playing up, Dropping Connection, so i Phoned up support, and get this, In less than an Hour i had a new NTL 250 installed and working. Not bad customer service if you ask me.

Apparently they've experienced a few problems lately with the Motorola's and from what the engineer said they were possibly going to change them all in time.

You're web browsing will be nearly impossible if you were downloading at around 6mb (the max for that modem) at the sametime. Atleast that was my experience. Changing the modem to a Ntl:250 sorted all those problems out.

Re: Best NTL modem?

Hey,

I remember the old 3Com router we had at my uni house used to have a "MAC address cloning" feature. I'm looking at the Linksys WCG200. If this had a similar feature, could it be compatible with the NTL cable service?

Cheers,

Suman

It may well be compatible, but includes a Cable Modem. NTL will only allow their own Cable Modems to be attached to the network, so you would be better off buying an Ethernet router (such as the WRT54GS, also by Linksys).

I figured as much. If I get to that speed I'll most likely change it for a 250.

Thanks,

Dave

Re: Best NTL modem?

Ive seen several comments about the 3100 but what about the SB 4100? Seems to be quite happy with the 4mbit here.

I believe the 4100 is capable of 10mb, but not 100% on it.

Re: Best NTL modem?

Well so far they extended my deadline until November, then they said I should ring back then to see if they can offer me another deal then.

Have the 4Mb upgrade and the Terion is working just fine, so I guess I will stay with it, I do have a spare should it go down.

Are the set-top box modems worse than stand alone ?
