Like they do now because of course there's absolutely no theft of service on the ntl network.

Re: Modem = Bin?

Just a quick question here -- if someone was paying for ntl's service but had an old modem and couldn't get their full paid for speed why not buy a 250 from ebay and flash the mac address? Thereby avoiding ntl's £50 charge.
No theft - No fraud - where's the problem?

It would offend some dogooders on here. Apart from that, nope I don't see a problem with that at all apart from the fact that, obviously, your service couldn't be guaranteed as you're impersonating a lower model of modem so firmware upgrades would fail.

Because at this time 250 modems will only work for a subbed customer. The normal methods to change the mac address does not work on these modems. Therefor they are at this time nothing more than a blue doorstop to those that have not paid for one from NTL.

Gah I only put in the bit about how service couldn't be guaranteed, I didn't want to be more specific

You a dogooder, nah you aren't jumping up and down screaming about this. Fundamentally if it were to work I wouldn't see a problem with it so long as the person in question were paying for the relevant subscription, would you?

Not if it was to replace a legitimate paid for modem and the customer is paying for there service. Where i draw the line is theft of service, Then they should be boiled in oil for a week and then made to watch England 's last 2 games for a day .

Re: Modem = Bin?

It would be a hell of a lot more honest than someone deliberately breaking a modem to get a new one as I have read on here. Pity about the config thing though, I thought about that myself after I had posted.
