Hope ntl can maybe update the config to increase the speed.
How do I reboot a ambit 100 cable modem.

I'm in the same situation here in in Stafford. I've been upshifted to 4Meg, but only getting around 2.5Mbps average on an ntl100. Let's hope there's a firmware upgrade coming soon.

Re: New Speeds - June 1st
Well, I'm at work at the moment and I live in the ST5 (Stoke/Newcastle under Lyme) area so hopefully I'll have 4mb when I get in on my rickety 120 modem.
How do you reboot a modem - why, you turn it on and off by the plug you do!

Just noticed I too have been upgraded from 2 to 4 meg (Middlesbrough) and did the speed test:
Tue, 13 Jun 2006 11:41:27 UTC
1st 512K took 1406 ms = 364.2 KB/sec, approx 3001 Kbps, 2.93 Mbps
2nd 512K took 1484 ms = 345 KB/sec, approx 2843 Kbps, 2.78 Mbps
3rd 512K took 1499 ms = 341.6 KB/sec, approx 2815 Kbps, 2.75 Mbps
4th 512K took 1500 ms = 341.3 KB/sec, approx 2812 Kbps, 2.75 Mbps
Overall Average Speed = approx 2868 Kbps, 2.8 Mbps
I have the NTL Home 100 modem.
My speed is not as good as some of you on here, is that beacause of my older modem?
There is one big problem I have noticed since the upgrade which was not there before, I could carry out downloads and browse the web at the same time before without any slowdown when browsing.
Now when I download and try to browse the web the browsing is so slow, if I stop the download the browsing goes back to normal.
I know they have had to do some fiddling to get the older modems up to speed but is this one of the things they have done?
If so then should I ask for a better modem?

Do you use a router? This may affect your speed test.

Re: New Speeds - June 1st
Look like the speed upgrades follow the timetable shown on http://www.ntl-isp.ntl.com/ServiceStatus/
On the morning of Thursday the 15th of June between midnight and 6 AM,
Network upgrades will result in a loss of service in Southampton, Swindon and the surrounding areas
Hopefully Portsmouth will be upgraded on the 15th...

Re: New Speeds - June 1st
Reset my Samsung STB and got the speed below:
Tue, 13 Jun 2006 14:23:31 UTC
1st 512K took 923 ms = 554.7 KB/sec, approx 4571 Kbps, 4.46 Mbps
2nd 512K took 1563 ms = 327.6 KB/sec, approx 2699 Kbps, 2.64 Mbps
3rd 512K took 1516 ms = 337.7 KB/sec, approx 2783 Kbps, 2.72 Mbps
4th 512K took 1532 ms = 334.2 KB/sec, approx 2754 Kbps, 2.69 Mbps
Overall Average Speed = approx 3202 Kbps, 3.13 Mbps
Manchester area but I'm due for a cable modem and 10mbit since I cancelled DTV. A person on the same street as me gets 9.62 Mbps through a ntl home 250 cable modem.
I'm getting around 475 KB/sec from my newsgroup news server though. Can the Samsung STB handle speeds faster than this?

Well I just downgraded to the 4MB teir, I get on average 3.3 - 3.8MB download and I only get 220kbps upload!
So no change really in upload speed! Will try another speed test tonight!

If that is the case - then why hasn't Oxford been upgraded today?
