Upstream 480.2 Kbps ( = 0.5 Mbps )
I realise that its up to 10meg but this still seems a bit slow. Is there anything I can do? how do I check that I have the right firmware for 10 meg? Do I need to do this?
At this rate I would be better off switching back to 2 meg and waiting for the upgrade.
please can anyone help me?

Is this the adslguide.org.uk test or a US based one? I get 8Mbps down on the UK one.
What modem do you have - you cannot do anything about firmware yourself but there are known issues with certain variants.
Its possible you can tweak (or remove ol dial-up tweaks) from your PC TCP/IP settings - see the analyzer on
http://www.speedguide.net.
But note of caution I have found that optimizing for fastest downloads seems to slow some other things down - maybe if a packet is lost there is a longer wait before a replacement is requested?
