WRT54G V5 - Access Point

Hi'ya folks...

Its late and I'm beaten, for the first time in 20 years of working with IT... IT wins. You see, I've added a linksys WRT54G to an existing network. I don't need the routing capabilities as I have ISA 2004 on a 2K2R2 connected to NTL 10Mbs.

Whilst I can ping the linksys from the wired network and connect from a laptop to the SSID, I can't connect from the laptop to the wired side of the network.

I have turned DHCP off, plugged the linksys in via a LAN port... I've tried a spare Motorola WiFi box and it works a treat. I've added a quick piccy so you can see how this is strung together.

I'm sure I'm doing something stupid - but hoped one of the folks on this board has blazed the trail before.

Thanks

Gary

Hmm, firewall on the Linksys conflicting with something?

I know Linksys WRT54GS (model up from yours) talks about ad-hoc and infrastructure modes, and you need infrastructure for wired to wireless but where you set that I dunno

Ultimately if you sus it out, let me know 'cos I might need a very similar setup

Does the network seem OK if you connect a second PC, wired to a LAN port of the Linksys, i.e. can that PC see the rest of the netowrk, use the internet etc OK?

Am I correct in assuming that the Server running ISA2004 will have tow network cards, one for the LAN and one for the internet connection. Thus your Linksys router is attached to the LAN side of the network? With this setup should you not treat the Server as a router, thus you are effectively daisy chaining the Linksys as a second router to the server. Thus the server should connect to the Linksys WAN port?

Re: WRT54G V5 - Access Point

A 2nd PC connected to the linksys works a treat - implying the switch bit works a treat.

The ISA has two network cards in, the linksys just needs to bridge the wifi side to the ethernet side. I've been reduced to randomly turning options on or off... there is a Gateway / router option which would appear to need to be set to "Router". I don't need the firewall feature so I'm wishing I'd brought a standalone access point.
