Eurovision? Euro joking!
Finland Euro Entry

HELSINKI They have eight-foot retractable latex Satan wings, sing hits like "Chainsaw Buffet" and blow up slabs of smoking meat on stage. So the heavy-metal band Lordi expected a reaction when it was chosen to represent Finland at Eurovision, the European song competition that launched Abba and Celine Dion.

Oh dear, looks like we have lost again to a superior entry

Re: Eurovision? Euro joking!
Well at least it might be worth watching this year! I wonder what Terry Wogan will make of them?

Wonder what they'll be singing? Could be "Lets do the timewarp again" or The Monster mash"

Trouble is they cannot do anything about it, it would be unfair to ban certain countries voting for other countries as it may not be a political vote they may actually like that song the most.

They look like they will be playing "Can't you feel a brand new day"

Re: Eurovision? Euro joking!
When Terry Wogan finally retires from commentating on this farce there will be no interest in it for the UK. He's the only reason anyone in the UK pays attention to it. When did any of the songs last make it into the Uk charts (not that they have much relevance either).

Re: Eurovision? Euro joking!
to be honest, they're probably the most refreshing thing eurovision has seen in years... even if they are a poor example of their genre! most forms of metal are surprisingly popular in finland (surprising, to the general public over here...)
at least you can't say they take themselves too seriously

Have you never wondered why the Eurovision Song Contest is largely paid for by the BBC? The whole thing is one immense practical joke, perpetrated on Continental Europe for the benefit of the British viewing public. You put Johnny Foreigner in a room and watch him carry on in his typically foreign and underhand way, then you get an Irishman to make broguish witticisms about it. Pure magic.
