DHCP to Wireless Clients

Was out at a customer today - they had a Linksys WAG54GS.

Problem was: wired clients worked perfectly ok - IP address and all...

Wireless client: could pickup wireless network - authenticated by WEP key but would not obtain an IP address for love nor money!

Latested Firmware...tried to re-install the firmware - but would not install (incorrect version for the model.....ehhh?? - it's correct - downloaded from Linksys support!)

Any ideas?

Edit - Oops - Mod - please move to "Networking"

PPS - Is there anyway to move it the first post myself??

You can't move it yourself - but I can.

Re: DHCP to Wireless Clients

I've heard of quite a few problems caused by antivirus or firewall type settings. Try disabling and seeing what happens then at least you can rule that in or out.

Re: DHCP to Wireless Clients

Strange - what network cards were they running - the WAG54s are a well used device so i would not expect the problem to be there.

Re: DHCP to Wireless Clients

Chris T: Thanks!!

Rob C: Not sure if I checked the AV / Firewall on the client - but I did try this: My SPV has wi-fi - I fired up the wi-fi connection - SPV detected the wireless network - I put the WEP key in - SPV authenticated but dodn't get assigned an IP address...

BlueRaJ: There where about 3 PC's in total - one laptop which had the standard Broadcom wireless NIC.

Re: DHCP to Wireless Clients

Could it be something to do with the subnet mask config.

I believe that if it was set incorrectly, it would limit the number of useable devices. I could be wrong however. Im sure I read that something like 255.255.255.252 would limit the number of devices to 2

Re: DHCP to Wireless Clients

AndyAndy - doubt it - config hasn't changed1

As a close to this one - we replaced the gateway today - swapped the WAG54GS for a WAG54GS2 and wireless clients connected first time without issues! :-)

So conclusion - FUBARed WAG54GS!
