Re: Ntl Sucks

Ahem I know how NTL fully works thank you very much the problem is it dont work hahahahahahaha

so there !

it is online 24/7 and we are stepping away from initial problem which is delayed webpages which strictly speaking is still online just took 30 seconds to open bbc news ah its ok sometimes it be saying resolving news.bbc.co.uk for over 2 mins and then eventually hmm this is not acceptable broadband so all those techie wannabees hush

this points to one thing
Trying to resolve DOH can not resolve why cos the transparent proxies have DUFF dns servers configured.

Just stop and accept NTL suck cos of how they like to BE DIFFERENT and provide internet differently to everyone else

If they did not take their internet via transparent proxies this post would not have occured !

Incidnentally what is the point of those transaprent proxies -
To keep a track of what all its clients look at ??

or is it to protect the users from actual LIVE internet hackers etc lol ( throughly doubt this since I have found scripts such as prxjdg.cgi which report back actual physical IP's on the other end of a transparent proxy )

The point of a transparent proxy is to serve you content from within NTL's network as far as possible. This reduces the need to send traffic outside NTL's network onto the internet, where it incurs access charges for NTL. So, it's about saving money, not snooping on users.

Re: Ntl Sucks

I'm no fan of NTL but I will give credit where credit is due!

NTL's customer service in my opinion may suck but I have never had any problems with my broadband connection, they may not be the cheapest but I would not say their broadband sucks!

I wouldn't recommend NTL because of all the billing errors and the poor customer service not to mention the constant price increases, just because other companies may also have poor CS etc doesn't mean it's ok to follow suite which is what NTL seems to do as a company on many things!

Overal a thumbs up to the broadband, telephone and the tv side is ok to!

Just a shame about the CS and all the billing errors etc!

That does seem to be the common theme, good product, just poor CS

If you don't know why the proxy servers are used, how come you are so convinced they were the source of your problem?

As was pointed out earlier, there are ways of getting round the few times when the proxies play up, but I think you are too convinced of your conclusions to listen - and, for you, it is academic, now.

I never fail to be amused by people who come on here & try to convince us that the whole of NTL is intent on screwing their customers. They have faults, yes, but not to the extent you suggest. Your argument would be much more convincing if it had more than just an agenda to slag them off.

Re: Ntl Sucks

Ok, I think this has just about gone far enough - there appers to be nothing useful about this thread, just an excuse to wind up and insult people. I find it quite ironic that someone on a Bulldog connection should come and rant about how ntl sucks, given Bulldogs incredibly poor record.

Unless the level of this topic rises from the depths it has currently sunk then it will soon be closed.

Re: Ntl Sucks

dude you got it all wrong this is about the fact that NTL has issues.

as far as snooping on clients it is not direct but yes if any external agencies required records it will be there (since all proxy servers hold logs ) hence this might be a future requirement for all ISP's and if it is their first attempt they havent done a good job at it .

Not all proxies will log requests. Squid can be configured not to log requests, and I'm sure that Inktomi can be configured in a similar way. NTL have been running their transparent caches for at least the last six years or so that I'm aware of, quite possibly longer again, long before the debate came about of ISP's having to log their customers traffic. In any case, as has been mentioned previously, all you need to do is manually configure a proxy in your browser that's located away from NTL's network to bypass NTL's own proxies.

Good luck on bulldog, I'm happy as a pig in s**t with my cable broadband :-)
