Travelmate 240

Hi

I have an Acer Travelmate 240 Laptop. At every boot, I get a checksum error, and the date/time are completely wrong. My guess is the CMOS battery needs changing. I was wondering if anyone had any idea how to access this battery. I have tried Acer support, but they just tell me to take it to a laptop shop.

I have tried Googling for a service manual, but all I can find is a parts diagram.

If anyone does know, or can point me in the right direction to find the neccesary info, I'd be most grateful. Thanks.

You have my sympathy...

Just get your screwdriver out - it's on the mainboard. You might have to remove the keyboard to get the bottom off it...

Re: Travelmate 240

Thanks for the prompt reply. I did remove all the screws on the bottom, but there is still something holding the base, near the LCD hinges.

This might sound a tad cheeky, but is there a trick to lifting the keyboard? I know with some makes you need to lift 1 or 2 keys first.

Again any suggestions most welcome.

If its similar to the 260, this pdf may help you.

It has quite a detailed exploded diagram which may help you to figure out how it comes apart.
