Usb to ethernet issue

Hi Guys, hope someone can help....

I re-formatted PC few weeks ago, and its working beautifully, except that i am having an issue when using an encoding prog.

It is using 90+% of my cpu usage, and eventually crashes my pc, and the problems seems to stem from the usb to ethernet converter(ADMTEK.ADM8511).

When i re-installed everything i never installed my connection as i plugged in and it worked, no drivers etc needed. I then thought that if i stick my disk in it may install the required drivers(i have managed to get the required driver of the net(ADMTEK.ADM8511). but not sure how to install), but the first disk i tried(v1.3) ti didnt like it, so i also had another one(v2.1), but it then asks for a PIN number that i do not have...

Anyone got any suggestions as i cannot encode any disks up to dvd at the moment

Thanx in advance

Claret

Re: Usb to ethernet issue

You shouldn't need the install disk from ntl (I assume you are on them) except for the USB drivers. Plugging in the ethernet cable direct to the PC's network card, rebooting the modem / STB and rebooting the PC should be enough to swap over to ethernet.

If you still have problems check the ethernet connections and internet explorer settings are all set to auto detect.

The only registration you would need is if you connect via a Set Top Box, in which case you may need to phone CS to get a reminder of your PIN.

USB can use resources of your PC which a network card provides onboard. Thus ethernet may be the more reliable solution if you are having PC problems.

Re: Usb to ethernet issue

You are online so unless you are using a different PC that suggests your USB conection is OK :confuused:

USB uses resources from your computers generatl CPU etc. If other proigrams are having a hard time of things, try disconnecting the USB while you run those programs.

Ultimately adding a network card they cost around £10.00 from any decent high street computing store may be your best option.
