divX problems

some of my family have just moved to america and they have emailed me a divX video of where they live so we can see it. i have installed the divX codac, player and web player. i open divX and go to file then open select the file then it plays. after 2 mins exactly it displays an adverisement for divX maker. in the bottom right it says the video is 10 mins long and its at 2mins on the dot. i cant get it to play the rest at all. i cant even play it in media player because it says i dont have the codac but i do! any ideas wazzup? are there anyother divX like programs that i could use?

What he said!

http://www.videolan.org/vlc/

unless your family has used the latest version of dvix (6 I think) then this will play the file without installing any codecs. IIRC, the official, free divx player likes to communicate with advertising companies and you risk popups galore. Don't quote me on that - it's been years since I used the crud. Xvid (an open source codec) all the way, baby!

Re: divX problems

If you have the right codec installed (from http://www.divx.com), then just play it in Windows Media Player.
