Getting NTL to work on an Edimax router
Today we got NTL Cable 10mbp/s installed. I followed the instructions down to a T and got it working on the PC I installed the software on. That's what i'm using to write this post actually.
The ADSL Router we had doesn't work with Cable obviously so we went down to the local shop and bought an EDIMAX BR-6204WG(B) wireless cable router. It said in the manual it was simple, and it looked far more simple than even the Belkin ADSL router we had before.
It said all we had to do was to connect the modem to it via the WAN port and login to the router and click the easy setup, which basically means:
Select 'CABLE'
Click 'NEXT' on the timezone screen
Aaand then it asks for ISP name and MAC Address. I wasn't sure what to do, so I rang NTL support and the clueless woman on the end of the line told me to ignore the ISP name as apparently NTL don't require you to enter that, and also the MAC address meant the router's MAC Address. The Edimax booklet said some ISP's just let you leave it blank.
This is my first question: Should I leave it blank, or somehow find my router's MAC Address. And if so, where do I find it?!
I tried it both clicking the button that uses my pc's MAC Address, and leaving it blank, no internet connection either way.
I tried the more detail setup but still no connection.
What i'm really wondering is if anybody has any knowledge or experience of Edimax Routers and/or can help me get a connection when using my router plugged in to the modem.
Thanks for any help. Damnit why didn't I buy a Linksys!
