Why was I so stupid....

b. cox wrote

Well I have been with ntl for a while, no real problems, I was lucky I suppose.

Now its come to bite me on the a###

I had all 3 services, telco+stb+stbnet

I cancelled my STB+net and just left the telephone on to be transferred into sister in laws name etc as it was her house and she wanted to keep the same number.

I gave a months notice on the STB+net, they sent a change over letter for the phone.

Then they go and bill me for the phone(9.99 telco only line rental) + a months STB + a months net.......

a total of 90 quid (60 quid in rentals + 30 call charges)

I phoned up and they said no problem the charges will be corrected, I requested a corrected bill so I could pay the correct amount, they never sent one.

weeks pass, reminder for incorrect amount arrives (90ukp)

I phone up and explain I cant be responsible for these charges as I dont have service for the dates that the charges relate to, ie they are advance charges and the stb + net is disconnected and I have moved out.

after an hour on the phone I gave up, they wanted me to pay the charges and get a credit on the next bill, I explained I should not have a next bill as I am no longer a customer and have moved from the property, and why should I pay in advance for services I wont be receiving, you dont pay for what you dont get.

I gave up in the end and agreed to pay the charges and have a credit on the next bill and then I could have a cheque sent etc.

So I will pay 90, and later get 60 credited to bill, so I have only paid for the outstanding phone charges, all will be well in the world.

Was still a bit annoyed at having 60 quid of my money sat at ntl's bank for a month though.

Ha, this month I get another bill, guess what, credited 8 ukp ! yes 8 ukp and more monthly charges!

And while I was on the phone the first time I booked sister-in-laws new modem(stand alone) only to find its now arrived in my damn name giving me another bill and I dont live here anymore!

I think I'll just not pay and let them take me to court this time.

After all I have heard about ntl how I could have been so stupid to trust them with 60 quid of my cash is, well, my own fault really. wont do it again.

Welcome to the forum, sounds like you have fallen into the pit of NTL billing despair. It might be that the team can escalate this for you if nothing is resolved soon by normal methods. There is a tool at the top of the forum
http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/forumdisplay.php?f=81
that you can use to feedback your issues and problems directly to NTL too

Re: Why was I so stupid....

well It got worse, I only just got my net back!

As our kid wrote above, it was stupid, it got stupider.......

He left and the phone kept on working, the wife had given ntl her debit instructions etc and money started to be drained from her account, the new modem arrived and worked fine........

Bills kept coming in the name Mr Cox, but our kid never really calls here (unless car breaks down etc) so from September to Christmas we never saw him and bills piled up, but as money was going from the account we ignored it and presumed them to be just a statement that XXX will be debited etc, after all everything seemed to be running smooth......

Then at Christmas the phone went incoming only.

Then a guy phoned and asked for mr cox, so I said he does not live here etc but give me a number and I'll get him to phone, but he would not say who he was.

Next day a letter for Mr Cox turned up so I phoned our kid and he come and opened it, its from ntl, the guy who phoned, a credit controller type guy.

Well I said that as the letter had an email that was they way to go, get it in writing etc.

Well the guy emailed back and said the none of what we said had ever happened!

We never asked for a transfer of the phone service, as such a form (that we got sent) does not exist, only thing on the account was a requested downgrade, and that the internet account created for the modem was in the name cox with the billing DD in the name briddon, the wifes details, which she had given for the modem which she was told would be for her, why would she want to pay someone else bill when its her that wants the service ?

Anything other then this he just denied, the fact that our kid made the phone calls from here, with me here, and the wife her, and on that day a friend here (who was taking the P!$$ about ntl service and how he went to sky+) so we know what he said, ment nothing, witnesses are not worth a penny to ntl credit controllers it seems....

he then passed the outstanding 80quid bill to moorcroft who sent a nasty letter for 3 thousand ukp!

He emailed back and tried the 'wheres the recorded phone calls then' but they guy just ignored the question, even though he emailed again and said answer the question I asked last time, wheres the tapes, he got ignored and just a 'pay up you owe it' response.

Well last week the ntl door knockers came round trying to get ppl to sign up, so we did, and they now have given us a nice shiny modem with the 3 for 32.99 package, thats how I am able to get back on and write this, although it has taken 2 days to get a pin for the install cd......

Problem is we know have a new phone number, and wanted the old one, hte old one we have printed on all our cards etc and my old customers know it, we even offered to pay off all the debt that was owed if they would let us have the number, nothing, shows what its like, they refuse money while demanding it.......

I have kept the emails, I see a webpage coming on.......

Sorry to hear about all your problems you had with ntl, and hope you do manage to get something sorted soon with the help of the ntl people on this forum.

One thing does spring to my mind tho, why on earth did you sign up for a new contract with ntl when you knew how bad they can be, and while you still have a huge outstanding problem with them?
Sure you should have told them where to go when they knocked at your door!!! If I was in your situation I wouldn't want to give ntl another penny, let alone another £32.99 every month!!!

Re: Why was I so stupid....

I would recommend putting a complaint in with ofcom...
My brother-in-law had a similar problem with NTL, they sent out debt collectors for money they had already agreed he didn't owe, kept changing thier minds etc...
In the end he complained to ofcom, and it got sorted out straight away...

Because the service has always woorked and I have not had technical issues with them, only 'support problems'

The service was on and faultless, and had worked with no problems all the time he was here, it only went T!t$ up when our kid moved out and we wanted to stay as customers, with the same phone number......

A simple thing that most companys should be able to manage.

With ntl it seems if you get it installed and working, then it works, and provided you dont actually try to change anything, you'l be ok.....

yes your right I think, taking this to someone with a big stick may be the only way, as they dont listen to either common sense or the little man, or customers who want to stay with them!
