Do i need a pc to run a wireless network?
The above question seems a tad stupid so let me explain.
I have a cable modem down stairs that is linked to my pc upstairs , I have a buffalo router connected to this that is linked wirelessly to my laptop.
I need to get rid of my pc (need to turn the room into a nursery)can i connect the buffalo router to the cable modem and still access the internet wirelessly on my laptop as I have noticed that when the PC is switched off the router still works.
If anyone knows the answer to this before I start pulling things to bits I would be eternally greatful.

As long as the cable modem is conneted Directly to the Wireless router and not directly to the PC it should work.
Im not sure about NTL's cable modem however - isnt it USB?

That was quick, thanx! It must be ethernet as the modem is downstairs and the pc is upstairs, i'll have to check when I get home, so in theory it should work then?

Re: Do i need a pc to run a wireless network?
Yes, this will work. You can leave the wireless router switched on 24/7 and just turn on your laptop when you want to use it. The router works standalone, so can function perfectly without any PCs being powered on. As TBR said, just hook your cable modem directly to the wireless router, and you can then leave those switched on.

Just plug an ethernet cable from the NTL cable modem into the Routers Internet or WAN port and you are done.
You only have to have the router and modem on.
When switching on, do remember to switch the modem on first, wait for the lights to settle, and then the router.

On some occasions you may turn on your lappy and not be able to connect to via wireless, if this was to happen reboot the wireless and you should get reconnected
