UHF Television on VHF frequency

Hi All,

I was wondering if someone could help me, I live in Ireland and bought a tv in the UK about 5 years ago, the TV accepts UHF but the frequency that they use here is VHF, for a few years I used a Labgear Televerta .. but this has burnt out and the last year or so I have been using a video recorder that I bought here in Ireland to convert the signal to UHF .. but it isn't possible to watch a programme on one channel while recording a programme on another channel .. I was wondering would there be a way of connecting two video recorders (or a dvd recorder and a video recorder) to allow me to do this?

thanks in advance

Sean

Re: UHF Television on VHF frequency

If your TV has more than one Scart socket, it would be very simple to use two VCRs with it. All you would have to do would be to buy an aerial splitter to ensure you could feed VHF TV signals into both of them. Then connect one VCR to Scart1 on your telly, and the other to Scart2. Use one VCR for switching TV channels, and use the other for recording.

But is there no digital terrestrial service in the Republic yet? It would probably be cheaper to buy a digital terrestrial reciever if you can!

to the forum by the way.

Does the TV have scart or other inputs that are not the aerial socket? You can plug the VCRs into them and then switch between them.

Re: UHF Television on VHF frequency

Hi,

thanks for the quick replies, the tv has three SCART inputs, I'm not sure how many I'm using at the moment, I have the dvd player, Video and X-box connected to it. will have to check when I get home from work

I'm don't think there is a digital terrestrial service here yet

Re: UHF Television on VHF frequency

I thought that both VHF and UHF were used in the RofI. Have you tried a channel scan of late connecting direct to the TV? Thinking about it though you may need a different aerial to be able to pick up the UHF channels.

What about using Sky which would alleviate your problem.

Re: UHF Television on VHF frequency

Hi Ian,

thanks for the reply, I contacted my cable provider (chorus) they said that they transmitt via VHF only.

as for Sky well, I don't really want a system with loads of channels, I feel that there is an awful lot of rubbish transmitted on most of the sky channels.

the Chorus system gives me about 14/15 channels which i kind of like!

regards
Sean
