Re: Outlook Express Problem

I had a similar problem a few months back and it was to do with my virus / firewall. If you are using Norton Anti-virus try either updating to latest version or disable all together. Same goes for your firewall. Some virus software won't let you send large attachments (over 64k) unless you split them into smaller chunks.

Re: Outlook Express Problem

Hi Everyone. Read through your THREADz. Just got a new PC and just tried to use Outlook Express and got "The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'ntlworld.com', Server: 'pop.ntlworld.com', Protocol: POP3, Port: 995, Secure(SSL): Yes, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E". I had a similar problem with my hold PC when I had Norton on it. I uninstalled it but was still a problem. Never did manage to sort it. Can anyone help. Is there something I am missing in the POP options that I haven't done yet?:erm:

Re: Outlook Express Problem

What pop and SMTP settings have you got in OE Looby? Also do you have a firewall and anti virus installed? If so what are they?

Re: Outlook Express Problem

Paul, You get everywhere! One of the last things I did in setting up this new machine was set up NTL Email POPs - POP. ntlworld.com, smtp.ntlworld.com, outgoing port is 25 and incoming is 110. I got this from another thread here. Isn't this OK?

Re: Outlook Express Problem

hope that isn't what you typed in
it's all lower case pop.ntlworld.com
smtp.ntlworld.com
Also check the user name and passwords set up for it.
Any firewall or anti-virus software installed?

Re: Outlook Express Problem

Paul, Firewall installed and enabled. Ive downloaded Ntlguard as anti virus protection. Had tried Norton with the last machine but had it uninstalled as caused too many problems. Have I done OK?

Re: Outlook Express Problem

Should be fine doing that. What operating system are you running? At the moment you haven't mentioned a firewall so I'm hoping xp as it has one built in. (basic as it is).
Double check all details and try a send receive and if an error occurs can you copy it into a post please.

Re: Outlook Express Problem

Paul, Ive checked the account details and everything is in lower case. Although the incoming port is down as 995 and not 110 as recommended in an earlier thread. I am using Windows XP (and yes firewall is included). I'll do a test and copy details in next post.

Paul. Message received when opening Outlook Express "Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity. Account: 'ntlworld.com', Server: 'pop.ntlworld.com', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): Yes, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F". I can only get OE if I have logged into Ntlworld mail.

Re: Outlook Express Problem

Alleluja! I checked the account and settings and once I unticked the SSL boxes and changed incoming port to 110 all the emails (8 of them) appeared.
Thanks. What can I say, yet again you have come to my aid. I'm so blessed to have someone like you to help me. LOL My guardian angel
Going now, got to get up early tomorrow. See you later in the week. Bye
