There is also the choice not to have a TV at all of course. Plenty of people manage without one.

I probably could do without one, I just download shows I want to watch and get the news of the web, I probably watch tv only for football.

I think there will come a time when people will not have a TV becuase it will all be available online. ntl had better watch out because people won't pay the money.

That's really niave, how do you think people will get it offline? NTL doesn't produce the majority of the TV (apart from it will have the stake in UK TV), it is the provider, so either it provides it over existing standards or over IP, either way it is still the provider. You might think that there is more choice when it comes to ISPs, but by the time this all kicks off (and it will be a long time away before you can truely get all TV streaming over the net) then there will be far fewer ISPs as the big boys will of course realised this and have bought them up. NTL has NTL obviously, about to have Telewest and already owns Virgin.net. Sky has just bought / is in the process of buying easynet which owned UKOnline.

Lets think of who's left? Tiscali, AOL, Wanadoo, Pipex, Toucan and of course BT. There are another few who are 2-bit in number and a couple of the ones i have mentioned above are 2-bit in number too. How many of these companies will stay as solo ISPs when the time comes and how many realistically will be able to offer a service with sufficient enough upload/download and with what will essentially be an unlimited services if it's permanent TV over IP.

The big boys arn't stupid, they are the ones who shape what we do, not us them.

Should Sky, BBC, ITV also look out or is it just NTL ?. Now if its all of them then if people dont pay the money then who pays for the programs to be made. Or is it a case of only NTL as they are who you have a gripe with ?

No because those providers will continue to make the programmes.

My point is is that some people will choose to watch Tv via the internet rather than via the TV and those will be people who will cancel their subscriptions to ntl, saving themselves a whole laod of cash in the process.

I have no problem with the TV lcience as it pays for channels and services which I regularly access.

I also don't have a problem with my choice to pay ntl for TV.

I DO object to being forced to pay money for a telephone line I have no want nor need for regardless of whether I subscribe to an ntl telephone line.

Fair enough, but you obviously don't object strongly enough to want to switch to an alternative DTV service that doesn't have a bundled phone line!

IIRC, I had this discussion with Rillington before. He lives in a flat, and neither are an option.
