Long USB cables
Has anyone got any experience of using long USB cables? I believe the longest allowed is 5m. Does this work reliably at USB-2 speeds? Is it possible to bend the rules and get away with an even longer one?

Maximum USB Cable Length
The max cable length MOTU recommends between a USB computer and USB interface is 5 meters (16.5 feet). Longer runs can be achieved thru the use of POWERED USB HUBS. For extremely long runs, MOTU has tested the device USB CAT5 EXTENDER referenced in the link below.
This allows USB runs of up to 100 feet!

Re: Long USB cables
5m was the norm before but now you can get 12m Repeater extension cables that work <Edit Rob: deleted>

Re: Long USB cables
One way to kludge it would be to chain segments of 5m or less, with cheap hubs as signal conditioners - maximum of 5 hubs connected in series.
