Re: [Merged] Firefox 1.5 Final
After giving FF 1.5 a try I'm still not impressed. It renders pages at the same speed as IE6 does (for me that is).

Re: [Merged] Firefox 1.5 Final
And that's bad, Electrolyte? I use FF _because_ it's as fast as IE, and because it comes out well ahead in the consideration of its other aspects.
I tried several other browsers before I came across FF, and the main reason I didn't change over to any of them was that they were all _slower_ than IE.

Re: [Merged] Firefox 1.5 Final
I am constantly having to click on a smiley then delete it for the flashing cursor to permit me to type in a box like this, and quick reply is impossible.
I am on FF 1.5 with fasterfox and gmail notification extensions.
Driving me nuts it is, anyone else got this issue?

No, it's because I usually see people saying FF is faster than IE.

Re: [Merged] Firefox 1.5 Final
To be honest FF is a nicer browser but the tech problems I am having with it and lack of solutions is making me think about dropping FF and moving back to IE6.

Re: [Merged] Firefox 1.5 Final
TBH I don't think most people have been having these sorts of issues, Saxo. It's important, though, to uninstall a version before installing a new one, and to delete the Firefox directory in Program Files, too.
However, 1.5 now upgrades incrementally, so you don't have to worry about that any more. But it is important to have started off with a clean installation in the first place.
It's probably a good idea to be selective about the extensions you install, as well. Read up on what they do and bear in mind that some extensions can produce conflicts with others.
Edit: I notice you're using Fasterfox. I don't use it myself, but I believe it changes your configuration, primarily to increase your speed. I have seen it implicated with messing up people's FF installations, though. Is it possible that changes you've made with it are responsible for the problems you're having?

Re: [Merged] Firefox 1.5 Final
Could be possible Patrick however my 2nd HD failed today and I had corruption on my primary HD so just reformatted my computer, so going with a clean install of FF later with no Fasterfox extension.

Re: [Merged] Firefox 1.5 Final
Try flat IDE cables rather than round, Saxo. They may not be as pretty, and provide a bit more obstruction to good air circulation, but I'm sure they transfer data with less errors than round ones.
If you're not using it already, Speedfan's SMART checking for hard drives seems to be a bit more revealing than some other applications, and it's a very useful hardware monitor generally.
