IP Address change?
Does anyone know if it is possible to get a new ip address? I am having trouble with people trying to hack my pc more than usual and think a new ip may help 
thanks for any help you can give me

Change your NIC? That or shut off your SACM/ STB for a few weeks. The increase in activity against your IP may just be new users on your local area who don't have a firewall or anti-virus etc.

...or change the MAC address of your network card, can't recall where the option is - somewhere in advanced properties for the card?

Thanks for the replies guys unfourtunalty my card does not have the option to change the mac address in advanced, or any place else for that matter 
Could be because its built in to the MB?
windows reports it to be :"VIA PCI.MB Fast Ethernet Adapter"

Do you have a Firewall?
Are you running any AV software?

what about ipconfig /release ipconfig /renew?
mine just renewed its licence after I restarted my machine after updating XP. Coincidence methinks, but you could try that

Im running windowsXP Pro SP2
windows Firewall
AVG Free anti-virus
I tried the iponfig /release and renew but it didnt work

I just release my ip then turn my modem off for about 12hrs.When i power it up again i've got a new ip. I've done this 3 times in the past and it's worked everytime.

I was in hospital from last Monday to Friday and left my modem switched on all the time I was in. When I came home last Friday night and fired up the PC the IP changed because I guess the lease must have expired on the old IP, so if you let the lease expire on you IP it figures you may get a new IP, at least that's what happened in my case!

Do you have a router? Routers generally allow you to set the mac address at will. My nics dont have the option to change their mac addresses.

On a sort of related question, how can I *avoid* changing my IP address with an Ethernet broadband modem?
BTW the answer to the original poster is to use an Apple Mac. All the problems of spyware, viruses and hacks will disappear.

Yes, most people are scared of change, although switching is easier than most people think.
