Re: *ALL* ntl 10MB Discussion (Part 3)
Bolton, Manchester area here.
I've been regularly rebooting the SACM since the ntl Christmas card arrived and am still on the 3Mb service. I rang customer services a few days ago and was told that I was on the 10Mb upgrade list and should receive it either later that day or by the end of the year. Now that is most definately a fob off. The lady I spoke to also said that engineers were working on upgrading areas in stages. Bolton was on the upgrade for equipment list months ago!
The upgrade page always tells me I'm on the maximum connection and after restarting the SACM numerous times over the last few weeks, I still remain on 3Mb.
Modem is an ntl home 200 and I've tried this both through the router and direct to one pc.
Guess it's just a waiting game although I must say a very frustrating one.

it allows you to inspect your cable modem's configuration including what the max upload and max download speeds are.

correct 10meg can only be available if you are on the top tier which is £38 a month.

1st 128K took 282 ms = 464794 Bytes/sec = approx 3867 kbits/sec
2nd 128K took 187 ms = 700920 Bytes/sec = approx 5832 kbits/sec
3rd 128K took 156 ms = 840205 Bytes/sec = approx 6991 kbits/sec
4th 128K took 188 ms = 697191 Bytes/sec = approx 5801 kbits/sec
Today i experimented by going ethernet straight from cm into the pc, the speed went upto 9.96 Mbps, thus in my case prooving that the limiting factor is the router, maybe an upgrade for the router, any recomendations.

If your not bothered about wireless, you could just to what i did, and upgrade from the v1 (sliver) to v3 (white). That will give you a 10/100mbps WAN port. You should really look here - http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/sh...ad.php?t=38424

This true? Or is he lieing. Seems strange to me.

Hi EZ, There is something not quite accurate with what your friend told you.
Have a look at this link...which I have already posted recently
http://www.ntlworld.com/toolsservices/forms/stb/
I am on 3M/bits, and I have made an appointment to have my connection updated by 16th Dec. I had Pace box updated to Samsung qyite some time ago. I am lead to believe that the box is maximun 5M/bits, however on close inspection, the main feed to it has an "Attenuator" in the main lead to the box. I suspect that this if removed will make the Samsung box capable of higher speed than 5M/bits...I wonder if NTL techs are aware of this.

Re: *ALL* ntl 10MB Discussion (Part 3)
Here is a Strange concept - If you currently have a router and it will not give you the full 10mbit speeds dues to only having a 10mbit port, most are quite happy to go to the shops and pay for a new router - mostly coming in at about £50 lets say. When NTL Charge people to go from STB to SACM to get the full speed, again costing £50 there is a Uproar???

Re: *ALL* ntl 10MB Discussion (Part 3)
One question guys...
3mb is in the process of being increased to 10mb..
2mb will be upgraded to 10mb next year? (so what about the 3mb customers then?)

Because a router is not part of the NTL delivery system.
If your SACM supplied by NTL feeding 1 PC was the bottleneck and couldn't acheive the 10Mbps NTL were offering, yet your neighbour got 10Mbps on his SACM again supplied by NTL, wouldn't you be part of the uproarious crowd? Damn right you would.

The difference is in the download bandwidth. 2MB customers will stay on 30GIG per month, 3MB customers will be upgraded to 75GIG.

that's because NTL are contacted to supply the equipment including modem and it's their duty to sort it out if it isn't capable of delivering the service.
