Re: *ALL* ntl Cap Discussion (Part 3)

Speaking as someone who HAS moved away from NTL and gone to Bulldog, there are both good and bad points.

Good:
NO restrictions whatsoever, I'm on alltime 1000 and I'm saving £25 a month compared to my old 3mb NTL
Reliability of service - once up and running I've had no problems at all

Bad
Took 6 weeks to get installed, so 2 weeks with NO broadband at all!
I'm too far from the exchange to get anything other than 1mb
Having to pay £75 to have a phone line fitted, when I have a perfectly good NTL line was a bit gutting

In all honesty, if NTL rethought their caps, i'd be back like a shot, I got used to the lies and misleading adverts etc. with them. But I put my money where my mouth is, I said if they actually enforced the caps I'd leave - they did and I did

It's cheaper and I don't have to worry about the time online, as I have no means of monitoring it, 512k is not a realistic option for me so staying with NTL's crippled product for "heavy users" was not an option.

if you look on here to compare prices with BT http://www.home.ntl.com/page/telephoneinfocompare you save 50p on line rental wow thats a massive saving. thay only compare to BT because thay are there main competition.
NTL BB the new price £34.99 and line rental £25 = £59.99 month
UKonline *£29.99 per month - unlimited 22Mb (440 x speed) line rental £25.50 = £55.49
the price of BB and phone and youll save ÃƒÆ’Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ãƒâ€šÃ‚Â£ÃƒÆ ’‚£Ãà¢â‚¬Å¡Ãƒâ€šÃ‚£Ãƒâ₠¬Å¡Ãƒâ€šÃ‚£Ãƒâ€š £ÂÃ⠀šÃ‚£Ãƒâ€šÃ‚à ƒ‚£Ãƒâ€šÃ‚ £ÃƒÆ’‚£Ã ƒâ€šÃ‚£Ãà ƒ¢â‚¬Å¡Ãƒâ€šÃ‚£Ãƒâââ €š¬Å¡Ãƒâ€šÃ‚£ not pence.
And i only live 400 or so mts away from the exchange so if i had the option of taking this i would be long gone.
You will find the £25 line rental equates to £10.50 line rental & £14.50 for unlimited calls to uk phone numbers begining 01 & 02 plus the local calls i should know as i have this package

There should be some uncapped options next year.

The problem is, that having been with NTL for 8 years or so, I've heard it all before.

I'll believe it when I see it, NTL have shown nothing but contempt for long standing customers with this cap issue, it was terrible handled with lies and misinformation all along. Aizad Hassain and his "power users" group, Bill Goodland's infamous comments about how customers "don't understand" and the farce of actually implementing a cap for some customers and not others, as an excercise in PR, NTL's implementation of the cap and surrounding issues has been astoundingly badly handled.

thats one of the issues that frustraites alot of us,I know people still not dropped down to 512k like Ive been for heavy use, very annoying and it cant be for what other packages you have as mines around £100 per month.I mean fair play to users who ntl dont touch for whatever reason just wish I was one of them.

I have to say also I respect the hardwork some ntl workers do in keeping the service running as stable as can be expected and don't blame anyone who works for them trying to defend the company that puts food on their tables.

That 1mb bulldog connection sounds a massive step down from 8mb they advertise maybe this 512k or 750k which it seems closer too doesnt seem so bad now. I'm going to stick it out till May and reconsider my options when the football season ends as 512k or 30-75gbs per month packages just doesnt cut it these days.Hopefully companys like BE will sprout up giving super speeds and unlimited packages to bring us more inline with other european countrys.

The sad thing is we all know NTL could give us more, thats why every now and then you'll get speed increases to come inline with other ISP's which they surely could of given you years ago.And I don't blame them for not doing 10mb unlimited but a more reasonable 1-2mb unlimited one wouldnt be so harsh I'm sure.Fingers crossed they do some point early next year.

Re: *ALL* ntl Cap Discussion (Part 3)

It looks like this might be news for you..

I called NTL this morning to talk about a phone/broadband package for the house I have just moved into and the guy told me that from Tuesday the 1mb package goes unlimited.

He was very clear about this and I asked him several times (I was going to haggle on the basis that Telewest offer unlimited packages..)

So either the man was lying to me or the 1mb servive is very soon to be uncapped. I didn't ask about the other packages.

Hope that's cheered some people up!

Perhaps ntl should have sent out bills to these guys using 600+gig then that would have gave them nice set of funds for upgrades.

NTL sales people are total liars- do not belive a word they say! I was assured by 3 of them that broadband was 100% available at my new home address. It took them 6 months to install it. I've heard so many tales of similar lies. They will tell you the sky is green if it will get you to sign on the dotted line.

That would be quite baffling, someone using 300gig of traffic generating 17.99 revenue against someone using 75gig generating 34.99.
