Re: *ALL* ntl Cap Discussion (Part 3)

noticed I was only gettin 750k on my 2mb connection a few days ago, so phoned them yesterday and after speaking to 3 different ppl and being told to reboot and check for spyware and stuff i eventually got told i had been put on to 750k!? for overuse.

which seems strange as everyone else seems to have been put on 512k? i am sure i have gone way over 30gig with all the stuff i have had from newsgroups lately but i never had a letter.

although i phoned again later and asked to be put on 10meg and they said ok and they would do it, but i am still waiting, so i am guessing i am locked to 750k?

will try and phone again later

Unlikely to happen IMHO, this would be like mobile phone companies putting you on the most appropriate package every month, part of the money making machine of any service company is people buying too much and not using it, that being inclusive minutes, discount tarrifs they don't use, tv channels they don't watch or bandwidth they don't use.
In the same way that mobile companies have a 60 inclusive minute tarrif and a 10,000 minute tarrif. NTL need tarrifs to match the entire user base.

The more that use the 10 items or fewer line the longer it takes - a road works on a motorway can bring you to a standstill so takes you longer --- first class post does not alway get there first..

Not really, none of those things cost any more money, apart from the stamps where we're talking a few pennies.

Re: *ALL* ntl Cap Discussion (Part 3)

well noticed theyre doing ntl homepage ads for 10meg now, nice <micro text for all info regarding the actual cap> Just like old times no point in telling new users theyre going to get less than the 512k users who are paying half the price, and the user policy doesnt even open. http://home.ntl.com/page/userpolicy.html
Cannot find record userpolicyhtml

will remember this when people find out the hard way and come complaining they didnt know they signed to the over costly service when they get dropped to 512k.Clearly NTL are trying to swindle new users into accounts they dont understand likeSMHarman say's mobile companys do in selling people minutes they dont use.Its the exact same you either make good use of your 10meg and get dropped or become a user who ntl will be happy with who probably just surfs and doesnt care how much they pay.

Also the compare chart http://www.home.ntl.com/page/broadbandcompare doesnt show correct figures on what BT allow you and doesnt even show that nice unlimited service Bulldog have.Just more proof on why people are unhappy with them. How long are they planning on the BT line saving users £10 per month advert,on getting new users ? surely people see the 1mb per month limit with the £17.99 next to the unlimited 512k £17.99 aol have.

That'll be why they were trying to pimp it to me so hard.

Shame the incompetent @rseholes take 4-6 weeks to install else I might have taken them up on it.

BTW you might find that the unlimited part refers to the time you can spend online, not the bandwidth usage

In English?

Ah I see.

Totally relevant, unlimited can mean either unlimited time online (you can connect when you want) or unlimited usage (download what you want).

Yes unlimited time online one expect from all broadband packages, however this is the company that has a budget product that permits something silly like 4 hours online a month.

Ah I got my timescale slightly wrong too.

Translation: Whoops we spent all our money on TV and tube ads and forgot to add extra line cards to your DSLAM, how clever are we!

Am sure Ofcom will enjoy the resultant complains as once again Bulldog sell more than they can provide (how did that 20k orders outstanding with 40k installed customers backlog go with getting cleared I wonder, planks). Along with the nice promises of no advertising that lasted at least a month before the most recent huge campaign.

NB Bulldog Broadband packages as advertised on their website right now:

Yes, too many people are knocking NTL even with their new 10 Mb service and saying they are far behind ISP's such as Bulldog who are far cheaper and unlimited. Ignition has just shown that you have to dig deeper into what ISP's are offering to get the true picture. You cannot get high speed unlimited traffic broadband for peanuts and have a decent service level. There will be quite a shift in prices and usage allowances once broadband take-up slows down and 8mb and higher services become the norm.

Re: *ALL* ntl Cap Discussion (Part 3)

Ignition to be fair I prefer bulldog been honest saying we got no capacity so there is a delay to ntl's approach we got insufficent capacity but will add you anyway and let performance drop.

Would be interesting if a thread was started where ntl and telewest 10mbit customers compared speed's and latency to destination server's to see if ntl's cap truly does make any difference.

Ignition

So unlimited 8mb bulldog costs £34.75 still cheaper than the capped 10mb service ntl have at £37.99.And AOL's unlimited 512k is £17.99 where as ntl's 1mb capped is £17.99.

Theyre charging more than other companys for packages users are getting less from. All people want is a fair package for a fair price the UK's allready so shockingly behind other western countrys price wise ntl's *fake 10mb accounts arnt doing much to disprove this.

And I agree Bulldog does sound like an isp you have to wait around 4 weeks to join, but NTL are so slow in closing accounts that wont make much difference. Also I agree Ive only had ntl so cant say how stable other isp's.And do respect the fine stable account ive had with ntl (the 5-6 uncapped years where great, wish they'd hurry and bring better speed uncapped packages out). But Ive buddies on other isp's who swear theyve had the same stable net use for years as Ive had.

*fake in that you dont really have 10mb for long without the package speed being downgraded till its a new month. Also the £37.99 pm could rise after the first 75gb so even the price is debatable.

Re: *ALL* ntl Cap Discussion (Part 3)

A lot of people keep going on that if you leave NTL for say bulldog you goto have a phone line installed. so in reality that makes it a package of BB and phone. if i wanted the same package from NTL of BB and phone the price of the said package looks alot different.

if you look on here to compare prices with BT http://www.home.ntl.com/page/telephoneinfocompare you save 50p on line rental wow thats a massive saving. thay only compare to BT because thay are there main competition.
NTL BB the new price £34.99 and line rental £25 = £59.99 month
UKonline *£29.99 per month - unlimited 22Mb (440 x speed) line rental £25.50 = £55.49
the price of BB and phone and youll save ÃƒÆ’Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ãƒâ€šÃ‚Â£ÃƒÆ ’‚£Ãà¢â‚¬Å¡Ãƒâ€šÃ‚£Ãƒâ₠¬Å¡Ãƒâ€šÃ‚£Ãƒâ€š £ÂÃ⠀šÃ‚£Ãƒâ€šÃ‚à ƒ‚£Ãƒâ€šÃ‚ £ÃƒÆ’‚£Ã ƒâ€šÃ‚£Ãà ƒ¢â‚¬Å¡Ãƒâ€šÃ‚£Ãƒâââ €š¬Å¡Ãƒâ€šÃ‚£ not pence.
And i only live 400 or so mts away from the exchange so if i had the option of taking this i would be long gone.
