Don't forget to tweak QoS settings if using a router with QoS!!!

Re: *ALL* ntl 10MB Discussion (Part 3)

LOL why would i say thanks for the upgrade oh and by the way thanks for making my service slower than it was before.
If we all put on our rose tinted glasses and said ta very much lets not worry about any problems can you imagine the state this service would be in.

I'm glad that you are happy with your service i really am but spare a thought for the feelings of the few (and i suspect it is only a few ) who seem to be worse off, it can be very frustrating and this site serves as an outlet for that frustration and often a means to render help and advice.
My connection is VERY poor at the moment but i tend to be more apathetic about these issues, some how sooner or later it will work it's self out

Re: *ALL* ntl 10MB Discussion (Part 3)

Well, i'd be inclined to wait until tomorrow..... Can you imagine the contention of everybody now thrashing the living daylights out of their faster internet connections???

I noticed that adslguides speedtest isn't performing now as it was earlier this afternoon - I am guessing they are experiencing high load today.....

I am not saying I don't sympathise with those having genuine trouble, but "I am only seeing 5.5Mbit, or 8Mbit" isn't really a problem in my eyes.

Ah well, i've thrown in my 2 cents worth.....

Good luck all!

No i must admit your right reguarding some moaning when they have 6 to 8 Mb and expect dead on 10 and nothing else will do, i would be happy with 5 or even 4 come to that (3 would be nice lol).

I wonder if dangling the modem out of the window would scare it in to being more co operative, it works on the telly

Re: *ALL* ntl 10MB Discussion (Part 3)

I do not appear to have received any upgrade:

1st 512K took 1453 ms = 360831 KB/sec, approx 2973 Kbps, 2.9 Mbps
2nd 512K took 1438 ms = 364595 KB/sec, approx 3004 Kbps, 2.93 Mbps
3rd 512K took 1468 ms = 357144 KB/sec, approx 2943 Kbps, 2.87 Mbps
4th 512K took 1422 ms = 368698 KB/sec, approx 2950 Kbps, 2.88 Mbps

Overall Average Speed = approx 2968 Kbps, 2.9 Mbps

I have rebooted the Samsung STB, rebooted the router and rebooted the PC but still 3Mbps.

Note the earlier comments about having to pay £50 for a modem. I currently pay NTL in the region of £80/90 a month and I would rather spend that elsewhere, even if the service is reduced, than allow NTL to rip me off.

Re: *ALL* ntl 10MB Discussion (Part 3)

Any idea what sort of daily/monthly download limits are likely to apply to the (currently) lower speeds

I'd guess (based on 75GB/month for £35)

(1MB) £17.99 is 51.4% of £35, so I'd expect about 38GB/Month
(2MB) £24.99 is 71.4% of £35, so I'd expect about 54GB/Month

Of course, this is all wishful thinking at present

BTW - Hello all. First post, but i've been an occasional visitor for some time

Give them a ring mate. They're coming to fit me a cable modem along side the STB and didn't mention any cost when I asked them.

Pure guesswork though

Re: *ALL* ntl 10MB Discussion (Part 3)

I'm using the 120 ambit modem and have found that if you try doing to much at once it drops connection, this happened several time yesterday.
Going to give it a week, see if this firmware thing works,do I have to go somewhere and manually install it or will it be a automatic update?
