Router questions !

All,

My current setup consists of the following:
NTL 2MB through the setup box, in the back room I have a socket on the wall that the USB convertor from the PC plugs into, this gives me my NTL connection. I have a NIC in the PC that goes out to a small 4port hub and have various consoles laptops plugged into this hub. They all connect to the web via ICS on the main PC!

Now I would like to removed ICS so I don't always have to have the main PC switched on..! Can I just have a router plugged into the NTL socket on the wall and all my devices plugged into the router ! Am I going to get problems with MAC addresses ! If I can use a router can anybody recommended one !

If you've made it this far then thanks for reading...

Thanks in advance for any help/advice...

Re: Router questions !

Yep, you plug the set top box into the WAN port on the router and then your PCs connect via the LAN ports.
The router should just work out of the box but sometimes you have to tell it to use the MAC address of the PC currently sharing your connection out but if that happens we can tell you how and it's not hard.
Normally you would just power everything off,
connect the STB to Router and router to PCs,
power up the STB,
let lights lock,
power up router,
let lights settle/ lock,
power up PCs,
browse.
How many PCs are you looking to connect by the way?

Re: Router questions !

Cheers Neil, consider my wrists slapped and lesson learnt :0(

Paul, 2 PC's, Xbox, Xbox 360 and a PS2 will be connected... Not sure if this changes anything you have mentioned previously. Thanks for the quick reply.

Re: Router questions !

Are they all attached at the same time? If so you will need more than 4 ports on the router but still do-able
